 Northern Virginians have so many opportunities to get into a festive mood of holidays. From Alexandria, Mclean, Leesburg, and Manassas there is an opportunity to participate for everyone in the region. 

Annual Alexandria Holiday Boat Parade of Lights

When: Saturday, Dec. 3, 5:30 p.m.

Where: 105 N. Union St., Alexandria

Dozens of boats illuminated with Christmas lights cruise the Potomac River and can be viewed from Alexandria’s historic waterfront in this parade, an annual tradition in Alexandria.

Holidays in Leesburg

When: Saturday, Dec. 3, 6 p.m.

Where: Historic Downtown Leesburg

This annual parade features local bands, floats and, of course, Santa. The parade begins at Ida Lee Drive, travels down King Street through Historic Downtown Leesburg and ends at Fairfax Street.

McLean Holiday Parade

When: Sunday, Dec. 4, 3:30 p.m.

Where: Old Chain Bridge Road, McLean

The annual McLean Holiday Parade is slated for Sunday, Dec. 4 with entertainment beginning at 2:30 p.m. and the parade beginning at 3:30 p.m. on Old Chain Bridge Road near the Langley Shopping Center.

There is no charge to attend the parade, but participants are asked to bring donations of gift cards to support SHARE Inc.

Greater Manassas Christmas Parade

When: Saturday, Dec. 3, 10 a.m.

Where:  Historic Downtown Manassas

The 71st Annual Greater Manassas Christmas Parade marches through Historic Downtown Manassas. The parade features floats and marching groups from area schools, businesses, and community groups and, of course, an appearance by Santa.

Scottish Christmas Walk Parade

When: Saturday, Dec. 3, 11 a.m.

Where: Old Town Alexandria

Scottish bagpipers and drummers, Scottish dancers, Scottie dogs and more march through Old Town Alexandria in this annual parade. The parade begins at St. Asaph and Wolfe streets and ends with a concert at Market Square.

Christmas in Middleburg

When: Saturday, Dec. 3, 2 p.m.

Where: Washington Street, Middleburg

The annual Middleburg Christmas parade, part of the three-day Christmas in Middleburg celebration, features beagle hunt clubs, polo clubs, animal groups, community groups, high school bands and Santa.

Manassas Park Light Parade

When: Saturday, Dec. 10, 5:45 -7:45 p.m.

Where: Begins at General’s Ridge Golf Course, 9701 Manassas Drive, Manassas Park; ends at Manassas Park Community Center, 99 Adams St., Manassas Park

Manassas Park’s 11th annual night parade features cars and other vehicles all decked out in Christmas lights. This year, for the first time, the event ends with a tree lighting ceremony at the community center. Attendees are invited to come to the Manassas Park Community Center after the parade for refreshments, caroling, pictures with Santa and more.

There’s a $10 entry fee per vehicle.
