Garden of Lights at the San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas

The popular, annual Garden of Lights will open this coming Saturday, December 3rd at the beautiful San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas, CA.

The San Diego Botanic Garden is a beautiful place to enjoy any time of the year, but it’s particularly magical at the holidays when brightened by around 125,000 sparkling lights for this annual Garden of Lights event. You can view the garden and lights from December 3rd until the 23rd, and then again from the 26th to the 30th, from 5 – 9 PM daily (the San Diego Botanic Garden opens at 9 am).

San Diego Botanic Garden

We were there several years ago and I can tell you that it was truly a special place to visit over the holidays!

And if the beauty of these lighted gardens is not enough, you can also enjoy horse drawn buggy rides, marshmallow roasting, Santa (from the 3rd through the 23rd), holiday crafts, a nutcracker display, live music and refreshments including mulled wine. And on selected nights you can enjoy holiday carolers, puppet shows, and snow for sledding.

Admission

Sunday – Thursday: Members $10; Seniors, Active Military and Students $10; Non-Members $15 and children ages 3–12, $5.

Friday and Saturday: Members, Seniors, Active Military and Students $10, Non-Members $20, and children ages 3–12, $5.

The San Diego Botanic Garden also offers a number of special events during the year, including a Chocolate Festival, Art Festival and the Paw Walk.

We have three small towns in close driving distance to Oklahoma City that takes their main park and does fabulous Christams lights. It is always a fun event every year for us.

It was certainly stunning when we visited before, perhaps our 2nd year here in CA in the winter. Such a change from what we had in New England. I hope we take the time to do it again!

Sound like fun, Joe.

Dorie Dillard  We haven't gotten there yet this year hope to. It really was a fun experience, especially having gone soon after we moved to CA and it was so different from being in New England at the holidays

Beeth - sure hope we get to go. Sometimes in the evening there isn't alot of energy left

I do, too Steffy Hristova . This one is awesome. We also visited a very cool one in the California Desert, and we lived across the street from the Arboretum when we lived in Cambridge, MA that was free to visit.

Hi George Souto  - me too. We spent about 30 minutes last night driving around to see the lights in the Village and in nearby neighborhoods.

Amazing isn;'t it Lisa Von Domek ? Can you imagine how much time went into decorating with all those lights?
