I’ve been feeling like a fraud…

Real Estate Agent with Amerivest Realty

I haven’t written an ActiveRain blog post in almost a year…. because I’m not as much of a Realtor as I used to be…

I was a FULL-TIME (and then some) Realtor for 8+ years. I built a reputable business and had established my name in the St. Louis Metro East area. I helped a lot of buyers and sellers, I drove tens of thousands of miles with clients in my car, I was invited to multiple clients’ weddings, I was even on House Hunters.

When my husband and I decided to move to Florida, I was excited to master a whole new market. But, my heart just wasn’t in the day-to-day Realtor grind anymore. I didn’t love my new sales contracts. I hated my new property disclosure forms. I didn’t like that my “clients” were suddenly “customers” and the “transaction” was my “client” – or something like that. No guarantee I even have that outlined correctly.

I still have my license and I sit in a builder’s model home one day a week. I enjoy my weekly 7-hour open house because I’m helping people shop in the neighborhood I live in and love. I can feel good about that. (And, we use the builder’s contract which takes pressure off of me advising which of four potential purchase contracts would be best in any given situation.)

So while I’m not Realtor-ing around the clock… I’ve been WRITING!

I was always happiest on the days that I wrote blog posts about my real estate adventures (and other randomness). Admittedly, my subject matter often strayed to more personal stories - like painting our house or cutting our grass.

So, I've started a new blog (not hosted by a real estate-centered website) where I feel more ok about writing about my new pug puppy and my writing efforts.

I'm working on a BOOK!  (It's scary to admit that, but I'm 80,000 words in...)

I'm also exploring some freelance opportunities.  (If anyone is interested in help with marketing materials, letters, emails, blog posts, website content, or property descriptions.)

Enough rambling -  this is probably my last ActiveRain post (at least for now). I’d love for you to follow me (and my new adventures) at: www.TaraLynnWin.com

Or, you can subscribe to my blog by following this link: https://feedburner.google.com/fb/a/mailverify?uri=TaraLynnWin&loc=en_US

Thank for all the comments and support over the years - and hopefully you'll be hearing more from me soon.

Dear Tara,

That sounds like a lot of fun, especially, if you love it. Check back with us from time to time to let us know, how it is going. It is always fun to live vicariously, when you had a bad day & recall all the other roads you could have taken.

Congratulations on your new venture!  I live in Cape Coral and have for almost 30 years.  I can't imagine trying to start real estate all over in another state.  Things are very different state to state so I think it would be very difficult to adapt to the changes.  Glad you found something that inspires you!  Wishing you much success with your writing

Tara,  sounds like you have your hands full without the real estate "headaches."

When you find something you love GO FOR IT - until you don't love it anymore.  Life is way to short to beat your head against a wall.

Hope your Christmas is Merry and Cheerful and filled with inner Peace!

Good for you--such an honest post!  Glad to hear you are following your heart by writing!  I think once you establish yourself in this business and understand how difficult it can be...well you know it would be worse moving and starting again!

Very cool!  Writing is so therapeutic!  Kind like working in the dirt.  I've considered it to, but mine would be titled, "What to Expect When You're Expecting Back Surgery!"  Not exactly a best seller!  Good luck :)
