Unfortunately, there are so many people and organizatons that need our help, with time, money, servives and goods. It is hard to choose. First and foremost I thank God almight that my family and I really at this time do not want for anything. Also, we do give extra at this time of year but we feel that we must give year round and when the need arises. The next is we have limited time and resources to give. I feel that we must give back to our community as they say Charity begins at home. We have several charities that we give to so I will tell you where we give and why.
The First Charity I ever gave to is Fort Bend's Women Shelter, my first job out we were forced to give to the United Way...my instinct told me to give locally so I researched ( back then it was the old fashion way leg work and phone calls not google) So, I learned that Ft. Bend Women Shelter helped victims of domestic abuse and their chidlren get back on their feet. This to be has always been an achilles heel maybe in another life I was abused I do not know but I have been giving to this organization since then and will continue to. I know someone who volunteers there so I also in addition to giving money I donate clothes that can be worn for interviews and work.
The other local charity that we give money and food to is the Star of Hope Mission. It helps the homeless also people trying to get back on their feet. My ex-husband once knew someone who worked at United and lived there he was trying to get clean he was a hard worker and was just about to get a place to live when he died on the job. His family just wanted to know if he was off drugs and they said yes and that he had turned his life around. The only solace I have in this story is that the Lord took him and he is in a better place all these years later I still have tears in my eyes when I think of this young man.
We also donate to Good Will, Katy Christian Minsitries and SPCA. Robert Bob Gilbert is actually voluntering at a Dog Shelter but that is his story to tell.
We also give to Houston Police Department, Fire Department and The Wounded Warriors programs. There is much to give to but these are our pet charities.
