Christmas Will Be More Expensive this Year than Last Year

Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Professionals, CT 203-206-0754 REB.0759001

The 12 Days of Christmas Have Been Hit By Inflation

For that true love to impress his lady this year, he will have to dig deeper into his pockets in order to keep the shine on that lady's eyes.  If he's lazy about his shopping and shops online it will even more expensive.

Inflation has been inconsistent on it's impact to the gifts, with an average increase of only $233  or .7%. The total cost is now $34,363 up from $34,131.

The gifts summarize as follows:

1 Partridge In a Pear Tree

 2 Turtle Doves

 3 French Hens
 4 Calling Birds
 5 Gold Rings
 6 Geese-a-laying
 7 Swans a-Swimming
 8 Maids a-Milking
 9 Ladies Dancing
10 Lords a-Leaping
11 Pipers Piping
12 Drummers Drumming

The largest increases have been in the lords, ladies, drummers, and maids, and pipers, as their labor costs would have risen.  Not surprisingly as they probably negotiated with binding arbitration, which seldom favors the management side.

If the thought is to buy online, buying the same gifts online is $44,603 this year, up 2.2 percent from $43,627 last year. This is largely because it costs more to transport animals and performers — 10 lords-a-leaping cost $5,509 in-person, but $13,373 online because of transportation costs — than the cost of the items themselves.

I you are going to learn the song and have the presents presented individually, then shop early.  If you want to save a lot of aggravation and stress, then hit the jewelry store early and make sure the top bow hides the box as the biggest smiles are achieved when the jewelery box is small.

Well, my 12 days are going to be cheaper this year as the family had agreed to cut back and get back to the reason for the season

Ed Silva ~ hi Ed... most everything else is going up in price, why shouldn't Christmas. I heard a news report this morning that Christmas tree prices are up about 10% this year due to drought conditions where many are grown.

Woo boy, FUN post! Glad our tastes are a little simpler and require less money for sure Ed. A pear tree would be a nice additon to the orchard however!

Good evening Ed Silva ,  I think I will choose a different shopping list. I'm not sure what we would do with 10 Lords-a-leaping and we definately don't have room for 12 Drummers drumming. (Too loud for me)
