Throwback Thursday: Remember Necco Wafers?

Do You Remember Necco Wafers?

Necco World Headquarters in Revere, MA

I do. Takes me back a few years, though, as I haven't had them since I was a kid!

I was in Boston on business for CRS and was driving from Boston Logan Airport to the Portland ME area. Driving through Revere MA on Route 1, just north of the airport, I went past the Necco World Headquarters and HAD to stop and grab a photo. Did you know Necco Wafers have been around since 1847? And do you remember the 8 flavors in each roll?

I hadn't seen your post, Jeff, but commented on the one Michelle Carr-Crowe-Top 1% Diamond Certified Real Estate Team Sells Cupertino San Jose Homes-Just Call 408-252-8900 posted as a result of reading yours.

I used to play "holy communion" with Necco wafers! The question is: was I a dork, or was I wise to find a way to eat multiple wafers?

Oh yes, I remember these. My sisters and I would get a roll and divide them equally among all 7 of us.  I liked the chocolate one.

The chocolate ones were by far the best flavor. Kids today just don't appreciate them like we did. Had no idea they were around so long, maybe that's why they were so chalky

Hi Michelle Carr-Crowe-Top 1% Diamond Certified Real Estate Team Sells Cupertino San Jose Homes-Just Call 408-252-8900  - funny how so many people seem to remember them or have liked them. I checked the flavors - you are right for all except purple is clove - sort of an odd flavor IMO

Patricia Feager  - I'm glad Fred posted the pic - I think it jogged many memories. I'm sure there around I just haven't paid attention to them. Now I will have to look, and maybe try them for old time's sake - it's been decades!! LOL

They were, or are, an interesting candy James Dray . I didn't remember all the flavors until I looked it up

Neat, Gabe Sanders  Guess I didn't know, or forgot, you lived in that area

Iconic indeed Sally K. & David L. Hanson . I loved Pez and all the different dispensers! And do you remember the dot candies on paper?

Hi Jeff - I remember those from when I was a kid at the Saturday matinees - they had a weird dusty taste, but you got a lot of them - I think they were a dime. Haven't seen them since then.

Sheila Anderson  - I couldn't recall all the flavors myself except for the chocolate and licorice (not a fan of licorice)

They were definitely chalky Michael Jacobs . I don't think that bothered me as a kid but it would now.

I've seen that logo but have never had the wafers themselves.  I was a weird kid, never really into sweets

Jeff,  I remember them.  I was never a fan of them.  If I had the quarter, or whatever it was back then, to get candy, it would have been another choice.

Hi Lottie Kendall  - that's pretty funny (the holy communion part, that is). I imagine all sorts of ganes got played with these things

Rebecca Gaujot, the Go To Realtor®  - good thing there were a lot of them in each package if you had to share!

I was a very devout child--especially if candy was involved.

Rebecca Lewis  - chocolate was my favorite, too (and I remain a chocoholic!). I have no clue the last time I had them...decades!

Anna Banana Kruchten  - I'm glad Fred Griffin  DID share them. I should have since I suspected it would help with the memories!

Lisa Von Domek  - who knows, maybe you never had them!

Ginny Gorman  - Probably an acquired taste for some.

Dick Greenberg  - they certainly had a unique flavor and chalkiness. I think you're right on about the cost.

John Meussner  - probably better for you that way!

Kathleen Daniels  - I sorta liked them but had other favorites!

I LOVE Junior Mints Diana Zaccaro
