Insane computer things have been happening this week…
On Tuesday morning I turned on the laptop to find that it had gone wild. I tried to write a comment on Active Rain and the page kept closing. Meanwhile other pages were opening and closing and the cursor was bouncing all over. It kept highlighting things for no reason, too.
About then I started wondering if there was any work I hadn’t sent to clients and hadn’t backed up to my external hard drive. (There wasn't, thank goodness.) It sure looked as if the thing was toast.
Meanwhile, I had told a friend I’d pick her up to go enjoy our annual “Girls day out” of Christmas shopping, so I turned off the laptop and disconnected my WiFi. Then I decided to just forget about it for the day and have a good time – which I did.
When I got home Tuesday night all was well.
Meanwhile, a few days earlier I had ordered new ink cartridges from Amazon and instead of a charge, my Pay Pal account showed a credit. Strange. After about two or three days it switched over to a charge.
On Monday, knowing that I’d be away on Tuesday, I wrote and uploaded the Thursday newsletter so it was ready to go. It always feels good to get that done early.
It’s scheduled to go out at 9:30 on Thursday mornings, so when my copy didn’t arrive this morning I went to look – and it was as if I had never done it at all. It simply wasn’t there. Usually there are 2 or 3 draft copies, because I’ve learned to save often on that program.
I would have thought maybe I was the one who was crazy, but when I started to enter the subject line it auto-populated with that title. So – I really had done it already.
Fortunately, I did have a copy in Word, so got it uploaded and sent only about 45 minutes late. I’m glad I was sitting in front of the computer and noticed it was missing!
And now, tonight, another oddity. On November 19 I ordered something for my husband - also from Amazon. I’ve been waiting for it to arrive while things I ordered later were already here. Tonight I got a message informing me of a credit for that item. The reason: “Customer returns.”
Then I checked the order and clicked the links to track it. There were no details, but it says it’s on the way and should be here tomorrow. Hopefully, it will show up.
If the odd things were all coming from Amazon I’d think they just had a lot of seasonal help that was getting confused. Strange things can happen when people aren’t sure what they’re doing. But that doesn’t explain the laptop going insane or the newsletter disappearing from the YMLP site.
Is anyone else having strange computer happenings?
