Darn those pesky termites! They are all over Southern California, and as termite inspectors are fond of saying – there are 2 types of houses here, those with termites and those that will get them.

We bought our current home a couple of years ago, and while we did a termite inspection during the due diligence period we elected to take on the issue after we purchased, knowing what we did. Along with some other remodeling, we finally decided to have an updated termite inspection and take care of any issues, and get on a plan to monitor those buggers regularly.

W.A. Stone was highly recommended to me by a recent client, who had used them multiple times, and they had been recommended to this client by someone else. My client had glowing things to say about their service, and on top of that the fact that they do also heat treatment, with a 2-year warranty, in lieu of fumigation if desired, convinced us to go this route. No leaving the house for a couple of days for tenting, along with carting off the pets and certain foods and staying with friends or in a hotel.

From the beginning they made a huge impression – from the first call to the office to set up the inspection, to the inspector who came to look at our house, and then the 2-man crew today who did the work…I couldn’t be happier and more pleased with their responsiveness and communication.

There was preliminary cleanup and local treatment to take care of in the attic and then they set up the expandable tubing to carry the heat to the attic from outside. Because of the cats they ran the tubing up through a second story window rather than a front door.

The temperature, both ambient as well as in the wood, is monitored since the temperature have to be high enough (about 110 degrees) to kill these chewing varmints so this took a few hours.

While it got a little toasty in my upstairs office, with the windows open it was just fine. They cleaned up well after they were done and one would never know they were here.  And they’ll be back for a 6-month check-up.

I would definitely continue to use W.A. Stone and they are now on my list of companies to suggest to buyers and sellers, especially if they want to avoid using tenting and fumigation.
