Posting multiple blog entries...Help

Being a new blogger as I get more and more into it, I keep finding new things to learn.  When you start out in a new task you go along obliviously for a while, because you don't know what you don't know.  Once again I have hit a guestion that seems like it might make a difference.

So I am asking for help from any of you experienced bloggers.   If I sit down on a Sunday afternoon and write a bunch of blog posts,  should I submit them spaced out during the week?  Does it matter to AR?  Does it matter to the search engines?  What do you do?

Thanking all of you in the Rain who have been helpful and sharing with your knowledge.

Wow, I wish I had that stream of consciousness, to be able to sit down and write creatively and have the ideas just flow through my head.  I'm usually lost for words and can't think of anything to say.

I could be wrong, but I believe you're restricted to ten blogs per week points-wise.

Hi Jon.  It works a lot better when I remember to write down ideas for blogs as I think of them.  Then when I get a chance I sit down and write, but I always have a list to choose from.  Otherwise I can't think of something when I want it.  Should those ten blogs be spread out throughout the week?

Pam, Jon is right, we are limited to 10 posts per week in order to receive 200 points per post.  You can post more than 10 but you'll only receive points for the first 10.  We also receive 25 points per comment -- 10 comments per day.  We can comment many more times and 10 per day and I often do, but receive points on the first 10 comments.  We do not receive points for commenting on our own posts.

Now, the second part of your question. . . about the search engines, I don't know. But I'm going to park here to find out.

Judi - Thanks for the info.  Now I just need to find out if it is better to space my posts out over the week.  Maybe someone will share that information with us.

Hi Pam,

I think you should write when you feel inspired.  That could be anytime.  Sometimes it's therapeutic for me to write when I am feeling frustrated or when I'm feeling really up.

As far as search engines go, I saw an article written by an Active Rain member about Spyglass that helps you increase your visibility.

You can find out what it is at:   http://www.link-assistant.com/seo-spyglass/download.html.

Hi Pam - My personal strategy would be to space the posts out over the week. That way you can reach a potentially different group of readers each time, and the search engines would see a consistent pattern of new content on your blog instead of one day with a lot of new posts followed by 4-5 days with nothing. Makes sense to me, but I'll defer to any of the SEO gurus here in the Rain!

Pam, Since we are able to write posts and keep them as "drafts", my personal feeling would be to space them out. Especially if you get one that receives a lot of comments! You will wear yourself out trying to comment back and keep them all straight.

I think it's wonderful that you have so many ideas to write about. There are many of us who have writers block!

Pam...I write a few at time every now and then.  I may write 4 or so.  But for two reasons I space them out.  First, the visibility factor.  I think that you'll get better visibility releasing them at a set time every day, say when the day is beginning.  Secondly, you want people to engage with you.  If you release them all at once, people will think that you're just blogging for points ( a great biproduct, but not a reason in and of itself to blog ) and you really want to engage people to connect with you.  That's my 2 cents.

Pam, I new to blogging myself and still a little timid about it. So much to learn for a non-techy.  I'm still trying out how to save them before I am ready to submit so I don't lose it.

Dan - Thanks for the link.  I'm going to check it out right now.  Also I do think its easiest to write when I feel inspired.  Unfortunately that's not always when I have the time to write, so I keep a list of topics that I want to blog about and write when I get the time.

John - That makes sense to me too.  However I have learned that the ways of the web are not always what makes the most sense to me.

Karen - I agree it is not always easy to keep up with all of the comments and answer them in a timely fashion.

Hi Larry - Do you think that there are certain times of day that are better for releasing your blogs than others?

Jacqueline - It took me a while to figure out where the link for drafts was.  I have been writing posts when I have the time or am inspired and then keeping it as a draft to space out my posts over the week.  I understand that it can be easy to lose the post and that would be a disaster.

Pam. it's really up to you how you post them. Are they connected with a similar theme? Is each one different? If you post several at once, do you have to wait a few days before your next series is ready?

Steve - All good points to consider.  I will probably continue to space them out, although sometimes it would be easier to submit them all at once.

Pam,

Did you ever get an answer to whether the search engines like them spaced or if it doesnt matter?

Another huge question I have been wondering is if you think of a ton of new ideas and blog more than 10 entries in a week do you get SEO penalized for that? Is there a limit where there is just too much information posted from the same person? I mean if AR has so much juice because of a collaberative effort if you posted like crazy doesnt that help out? I didnt know who I should ask maybe I should find one of the gurus and ask them.

Today at a slow open house I wrote 6 blog entries ready to post. So I didnt want to get in trouble for spamming or something but I love what I was doing. I dont care I dont get more than 10 point scoring blogs but if I have a lot to say do I get penalized for that?

Is having a big mouth bad for SEO :??! (maybe a good blog entry/question)

Shane - I think the general consensus has been to space them out.  I think it helps to have regular new content, rather than a bunch one day and then several blank days.  If you are putting new content on daily and it is over 10 posts a week I don't think the search engines would penalize you for too much content.  I don't know that there is a magic number for how many posts could be too much for the search engines.  I think the 10 is an arbitrary Active Rain number to prevent people doing lots of meaningless posts for points and spamming.
I have a long list of future topics to blog about and that way I never run out of material.
