A Day That Shall Live In Infamy Stuck Between Generations

USS Arizona

It is hard to imagine it is 75 years back at the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese happened. On the battleship USS Arizona alone hit by the Japanese torpedoes 1,177 sailors and Marines died from that early Sunday morning. FDR called it a day that shall live in infamy. Me being stuck between a generation that lived through that and later 9/11 in the early 21st century you do wonder will 75 years from that if people will remember? Everyone remembers that attack in Eastern time that Sunday afternoon when the news came across the radio in 1941. My mother said she was at home in her bedroom. The U.S. was going to war. We should pause on all these events and remember key moments in life that change our country's direction. To honor the dead. To right a wrong. It is part of our history. Times we never should forget and pass down the facts from our ancestors and what inevitably finds its way into history books. But unforgettable and tragic nonetheless. I have been to the memorial and oil still seeps up from below the entombed. It is quite eerie. Almost like the dead still speaking to us.

I forgot what day it was til you mentioned it. Tragedies always stay in our memories even if they aren't forefront in our brains.

This devastating attack on our soil propelled us into the war.  I have never heard what the Japanese thought they would accomplish.

Thank you for reminding us to never forget . Sometimes we get so caught up in day to day craziness that we forget what really counts. I do remember the words clearly ...A Day Which Will Live In Infamy!
