Following up somewhat on my Thanksgiving Day post about helpers, I always see the world backwards. So much consumerism at this Christmas time of year, financial pressure, travel, people buying all sorts of goods they probably have no need for just to make people "happy." What I see, is many in great need for a listening ear, a warm hug, a reassurance that things will be fine, almost a pause AWAY from the craziness of life with a cup of coffee or hot chocolate and just an encouraging conversation.
I have had people come up to me at a table at McDonald's while I was using the WiFi to just talk about their day in the morning. Maybe I had that inviting looking face. Strangers in Walmart parking lots needing a few bucks for food. People at sports bars telling me about relationships falling apart. It seems everyone carries some pain and needs that helping hand or "compassionate soul" to just stop and understand with them. Maybe you can't fix all their problems or your problems, but a helping caring soul beside them sure feels good at least. Practice a little "aid and comfort" helping spirit this time of year, and just be ready when it is your time to serve. People will definitely appreciate this much needed love in the world. It is needed much more than receiving that new Smart TV gift, trust me.
