Lake Ontario Water Levels to Change Plan 2014

The International that oversees water levels on Lake Ontario has come up with Plan 2014.

Environmentalist like it because it will restore the water levels to a more natural state and rise and fall from two to four feet. This will allow natural wetlands to restore themselves.

On the other side of the coin property owners now spend about $20,000,000 dollars each year to prevent erosion and this would increase by about $2,000,000 each year.

One of the areas that could see an increase in flooding is Sodus Point, New York where my boat is docked in the summer.

Supposedly if the lake rises abnormally there will be a quicker response time to allow water out the St.Lawrence Seaway and should have minimal impact near Montreal.

At the moment there are eleven properties for sale and two business's with only about half that would be impacted by the water levels.

The boating and other water activities also should not be impacted.

Scott Godzyk My home for the summer and at least the boat does not care about the level to much!

Hi Raymond E. Camp - Every decision in government has an effect "down river" (no pun intended!).

Sheri Sperry - MCNE® At least this time the "river" will not be affected; the shorelines will be the worst.

Good morning Raymond.  Interesting how a little change can effect so many.  BTW, nice place to dock your summer home...

Save the Lakes! Let's hope the solution can be found so that it doesn't cost taxpayers a fortune.

James Dray It does effect many; would not be surprised to see a lot of properties on the market in the spring!

Will Hamm Thanks for stopping by.

Patricia Feager Sometimes government should control what thay can and stay out of the rest.
