The New Hudson's On The Bend--"AMYuse Bouche" #2

One of the long-standing landmark destinations of our community here in and around Hudson Bend, has been closed down for the past several months.  Well now it is finally back in very fine form.

Hudson's on the Bend has been known since the 80's as one of the finest restaurants in the Austin area.  Before Austin became the foodie haven it is now, Hudson's was THE special event restaurant, where many went for birthday's, anniversaries and date nights.

The restaurant recently underwent a transformation under new owners.  It used to feel like a remote cozy cabin.  Now it feels like you are walking into a high-end lodge, brighter and with lighter decor than before but still extremely comfortable and very intimate.  With Aztec patterned booths plus leather and copper accents that adorn the space.  The new bar area is larger and upscale featuring seasonal craft cocktails created in a classic style.  I had a light pear martini with star anise and my husband chose a coffee cocktail served in a large snifter.

The main restaurant has five different seating areas each with a little different vibe; whether it is a cozy fireplace, massive booths or porch-like setting.

We chose two excellent starters: the sunchoke tots and a chilled eggplant soup which actually served as a beautiful salad.

Our main dishes were an exquisite pork belly with winter squash puree and homemade tortellini with butternut squash and chevre. Our sommelier suggested the perfect wine paring for our meal choices. I  never would have thought to pair a dry white Riesling with our meal, but the fruit and acidity cut straight though the rich flavors of our entrees.

The dessert options made it difficult to choose. But in the end a decadent caramel tart won out and the sour cream ice cream accompanying it was fabulous.

The waitstaff was friendly, helpful and accessible and exactly what one would expect from a 5 star restaurant. Because it was dark we couldn't see all the patio improvements or the gardens they added which will be incredible to try in warmer weather.  They said they are also planning an outdoor bar and live music.

It is a perfect setting with a perfect meal. Austinites will find it exceedingly worth it's stellar reputation.

If you are interested in buying or selling property in or around the Hudson Bend Austin area, let me know!  I also provide 5 star service and I would love to help you!

Amy,

What a nice review of Hudson's on the Bend.  A savvy sommelier can really make a difference when it comes to selecting a wine.  You had my mouth watering and lunch is hours away.  A
