Finlay Sno ConeWinter is here, with 8-10 inches of snow on the ground on top of last weeks 5 inches, there's more in the forecast. Our new pup Finlay is loving the snow, as you can see he has his head in the snow and his cone, learning to use it to scoop the snow! Puppy antics!

This week he cannot enjoy it much as he is leash bound while his neuter heals. That's just as well really, given the forecast for this week. With some pretty low temperatures and even lower wind chills, it's hard for us humans to tolerate the cold. Imagine how our pets feel. Finlay has a double coat, one to keep him dry, the undercoat keeps him warm. That said 10 minutes is about the longest time he should spend outside in these cold temperatures, especially later this week when the wind chills are going to be -15 to -25f.

As 2016 fast comes to an end, consider the dogs that live in backyards with no protection. Imagine what that's like! It's almost worse than being locked in a cage in a shelter waiting for a new family to adopt you.

This year we made animal charities our animal philanthropy cause for the year and likely it will continue for years to come. Some ask why animals? My answer, because they do not have a voice. And of course because I love all animals, especially our cats and dogs over the years. Married for 33 years we've never had a day without some cats or dogs or both in the home. When a client was in need, we looked after her Chocolate Lab for 6 weeks and helped get her back to England. We also enjoy Deer, Raccoons, birds, Sandhill Cranes and other critters that visit our back yard. That's a joy of living in the country suburb of Barrington, IL.

My last sale of the year was due to close at the end of the month. Unfortunately the appraisal came in very low and the contract failed. That's always sad for a buyer and seller. Every time I have a closing and hence a paycheck, I continue my philanthropic effort. I won't let the lack of that closing be sad for an animal in need. I donated money to PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) this month. The funds are going to a dog house, providing shelter from the winter weather this year and in the future. A shelter and straw bed can help a dog survive the brutal winter.

You can visit Peta.org for other charitable donations. The causes are not just limited to dog houses and cats. They help the bad treatment of so many animals. We can make a difference.

Buy a house with us in 2017 and we'll continue or animal charity donations. We support both local, national and international causes. cows

Corinne,

This is one of the first places we donate to.  Our local animal shelters do a great job here in Santa Barbara.  Of course, we don't have the weather you do, but we have our issues also.  A

A worthy cause we appreciate as well....Finlay will enjoy chasing snowflakes

after he has healed, Dini enjoys watching Ash...the neighbor's dog frolic thru the

snow and "waves" to him while he plays.

Excellent blog. At this time of year, we often are more giving. But we should be that way every day of the year and animal shelters are on the head of the list for my donations. If you need any help on that lost closing, let me know.
