My real estate farming neighborhoods, Taylor Lake Village, El Lago and Seabrook, Texas are so great! One neighborhood in particular always remind me of those neighborhoods that you see on television. You know the ones...the Wisteria Lane-ish/Home Alone-ish type of neighborhood with families and kids and tons of outdoor activities happening on any given evening?
But I think the most amazing neighborhood event yet, will be taking place on Christmas Eve. On Christmas Eve, all of the neighbors are asked to join in a 48 year tradition dubbed The Luminaries in Clear Lake. This tradition started back in 1968 during the Apollo 8 mission, when astronauts, Frank Borman, James Lovell, Jr. ad William Anders, were on a mission to space. The story goes that during that mission, the astronauts had somehow orbited around the the dark side of the moon on Christmas Eve. Many neighbors feared the astronauts being on the dark side of the moon, even for a short period of time. So as a symbol of guiding the Apollo 8 Team back home to Houston, the neighbors line their driveways and sidewalks with luminaries. It has been said that the luminaries can be seen 190 miles above the earth by astronauts on the International Space Station. How cool is that?
This tradition has been kept alive by Boy Scout Troop 952 chartered by the local Community Association, by selling luminary kits. This is the Troop's annual fundraiser and 100% of the profits go Troop 952, to fund many scouting activities.

On Christmas Even around 6pm, the neighbors will light the luminaries and will gather with friends and family to stroll through the neighborhood and sing Christmas Carols, drink hot cocoa and spread good cheer along the way. This is an event that I wouldn't dare miss! I hope that I can get some great photos of the luminaries and post them here.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
