In July we got a new puppy and I diliberately took 3/4 months off work, referring out potential clients, only servicing those already in contract with me.
I knew I had to maintain certain things or I would suffer from not doing well next year.
Posting to my blog is a primary way for me to get new clients, so no way could I let that stop. I knew it would slow down but I did commit to doing market reports and other articles at least once a week. I also added a few new web pages. I do my primary posting on my own website, Active Rain is a place for me to network and learn rather than as a primary website, but I do post every now and then.
Even with a declining effort on my website I noticed a decline in traffic. I hate to think what might happen if I stop.
The chart above comes from SEM Rush and shows the variability of my traffic. You can see from Septemeber when I started posting regularly again the traffic started going up again. The dip in December is somewhat due to the weather, Holidays and that I have a lot of things pulling on my time this month including CE exams, a non related post secondary course with exams, and a trip to plan to England leaving at the end of the month. So again I have slowed down.
So the moral of this is don't ever stop.
Blogging is not a quick fix and if you stop, my guess is your internet business will eventually stop too. Even monthly variability of effort can cause a drop in traffic and therefore a drop in enquiries.
Note: SEM Rush provides data based on short tail key phrases, those counted by Google as having significant volume. It does not include long tail key phrases which bring the bulk of my traffic and a huge reason that blogging works!
So get writing! Keep the search engines engaged in your site/blog, keep the enquiries flowing.
