Saturday Morning Musings and Gifts
Today is a gift in many ways. While there is plenty to do (unlike our cat Lily who can just lie around in the sun and be…), it’s nice to not feel frantic.

It’s an absolutely gorgeous day – crystal-clear with brilliant sun, bright blue skies and clean fresh air although a bit chilly for us, at 46 degrees early this morning. I’m not complaining given what many other friends around the country are dealing with – our weather IS a gift. This followed another gift, a fair amount of rain beginning Thursday night and into yesterday, perhaps 1 ½ inches where I live.

There are things to do that are pleasurable – the time taken to finalize decorating and setting a holiday table (no, we did not pull out a yardstick like in Doynton Abbey, but a cool photo, yes?) before good friends arrive for dinner with us this evening. That will be a wonderful gift of friendship, fun, and good food.

The tree is done but there are plenty of other holiday trappings to place – ornaments, wreathes, holiday candles and more. But at least it looks like the holidays – we had to work around Alan yesterday, who has been painting the entire downstairs and had to redo the area by the fireplace mantle since the original color we thought worked, didn’t. He took it all in stride, like he expected that might happen.

My holiday granola is cooking as I wrote. The only thing that makes it holiday granola is that I seem to only make it at Christmas time, much of which is for gifts but some self-indulgence, too. It’s fun to make, and a personal tradition year after year. It’s reasonably healthy (all organic), although I can’t claim that it’s low caloric with plenty of butter and brown sugar. But that’s why you make that ridiculous New Year’s Resolution to go to the gym every day when you know you won’t, right?

I bet Barbara Todaro would have something to say after that comment!
I’ve been thinking more about my business and social media plan for the year. I have more to do on that, which means I need to stop musing about it and commit some more things to writing. Making the granola was an easy task that gave me time to ponder, and think about clients for next year – given the post I wrote last night I need to put pen to paper and list some ways to amaze, amuse, delight, and surprise them.
A very special gift early in this morning was Facetime with our daughter, and 18-month-old Ella who is truly a delight. She is now talking up a storm and so enjoys seeing all the decorations and lights at our house – she calls them “pretty pretties”. She loves seeing the flickering candles, and the Santa advent calendar (“see Santa Ho Ho”). They’ll be joining us at the end of the week for Christmas which is sure to be a joyful, albeit hectic, time. The cats will not be pleased.
I also had the gift of reading some wonderful posts early on while enjoying my morning coffee.
And look, it’s not even lunchtime!
What gifts did your day bring you?
