Your “One Thing”

Education & Training with TEAM Hughes Real Estate School REI#ZH1003093

Our Daphne, AL campus is in a Keller Williams office, and as my class was taking their final exam last week, I set up in the training room to grade them.  There was plenty of time to kill, so I began reading the different posters on the wall, and one caught my eye.  Gary Keller was asking, “What’s your one thing you can do such that by doing it everything else will be easier or unnecessary.”

I don’t know much about Keller Williams’ training and I certainly don’t know the context within which Gary Keller made this quote.  I do know, however, your “one thing” is going to be something special about you.  The poster began a thought process about our school, our goals, our hopes and our dreams.  TEAM Hughes wants its “one thing” to be its passion and its ability to pass on that passion to its students.

It’s easy to pass on a passion to someone who already has the same passion burning within them.  You are building onto their passion and enlarging it.  Passing on a passion to someone who is timid, not confident and perhaps even a bit scared is the hard part.  Most real estate agent wannabes who come to us didn’t decide overnight to get their real estate license.  Most students thought out the process several times, maybe have even put it off for some time, and then something finally clicks within them and they are now ready to pursue the practice of real estate.  Not all students come in with the passion.  Their “one thing” may not even be real estate – yet.

Through the years, it’s been my privilege to watch students come into the real estate classes with skepticism.  Once they achieve their license, something changes.  They become more confident, they walk with a different swagger, they even begin dressing differently, talking differently, and without notice, they evolve into a professional.  I’ve asked some of the newly licensed agents what their passion for life might be at this moment in time, and more times than not, they answer real estate.  That’s TEAM Hughes’ “one thing.”

If you honor us by allowing one of our instructors to place your future into his or her hands, we will do the very best we can to make the practice of real estate become a reality.  If you have the passion before you enter our school, that passion is going to be burning by the time you finish your course.  If your “one thing” is not a passion for real estate and you still want to practice, I want to talk with you a few months after you’ve been in the trenches practicing real estate because I know what your passion will be.  We are servants of people, and there is nothing more honorable than to serve another.  Let TEAM Hughes fuel your "“one thing” by registering for an upcoming class.  It will be exciting to enlarge your “one thing” and we want to help you do it!

Yes - it's a great book that distills all that swirls in our heads into a single focus.  I also need to re-read it.

Gary Keller tells you to focus on that one thing that will move you forward. It Ian rather like the 4 hour work week and the 80/20 rule  take Carey of what I am important first. Priorities must be the first thing done

Great post!  I agree with Harry, "laser focus" is lacking.  I identify with that becuase of my niche.  Focusing on it has helped me in business tremendously!
