Atlas V Rocket Launch Sunday, December 18th,

Cape Canaveral, Florida

An Atlas V rocket is scheduled to liftoff Sunday, December 18, 2016 on Florida's Space Coast at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Cape Canaveral, Florida.

The rocket will carry an EchoStar XIX communications satellite which will help expand high speed internet access in rural and underserved areas of North America.

EchoStar 19 is estimated to be valued at $500 million, including the launch, and weighs approximately 15,000 pounds.

The window opens at 1:27pm and runs for two (2) hours. There is currently a 70% chance of good weather at launch time.

This is ULA’s 115th mission, the 68th flight for the Atlas V since 2002 and the last launch of 2016 for United Launch Alliance.

Hello Diana

This is very interesting and I would love to get some video footage some day of these rockets shooting into the sky.

Hello VB,

With your photography skills I think that would be a great idea. Video would be a good choice but you would also have excellent photo opps for still pics. The day launches are amazing and the night launches are breathtaking.

I think everyone should see at least one rocket launch up close in person in their lifetime...it is an experience you will never forget.  Something to put on your bucket list, maybe?

Hello again Diana

Where is the closest place to view and take photos and videos of the rockets launching?

I have a HD video camera and set on a tripod it would take great video footage. And where does a person go to find out the schedule of these launches?

By the way, have a wonderful Christmas holiday with family and friends!

Hello VB,

You asked some good questions...the best place for viewing and photos can vary depending on the type of rocket and other factors. I don't think the schedule for next year is finalized yet...let me check on that and get back to you.

Merry Christmas!

No words can describe seeing a launch up close and in person...it makes you realize the width and breath of the universe and feel very, very small.

A belated Merry Christmas and all the best in 2017 to you, Sally and your family!
