Skip A Dee Doo Dah Do Over Day

My Oh My Look At The Lessons For Today!

While I use the expression “do over” I do not truly believe in do overs.

I do understand and appreciate the spirit of Grant’s ActiveRain Contest.

The older I get the more I know this to be true …for ME.

My life is a journey … not a destination.  Along my life’s journey I encounter people, events, circumstances that “teach” me. It is why I am here ... to enjoy the journey.  For the adventure. However, I admit, I do at times forget that.

The teaching or lessons learned may be discovering things that I like, or don’t like.  The more I learn the more I grow.  My life’s education may cause me to stop doing things I have done for years, or start doing something totally new.

As for getting it right the second time … sometimes the lessons keep coming until we do get it right.  It could take far more than a second time to get it right. God knows it sure has for me!!!

For the sake of this contest – I will share a major mistake I made in my real estate business and how I was able to do it over with a winning outcome. To be clear, there have been many major mistakes, aka learning experiences in my business and my life!

It is all part of my journey.

you are hired banner

Hiring the wrong people and/or simply trusting in them too much without truly completing my own due diligence to determine if they were the right people to do the job.

Lessons learned

Never assume or trust that just because people market their selves as being all that … that they are all that.  Anyone can call their self an “expert” and beat their own drums all day long about how great and wonderful they are … but are they … really?

Get references.  Look at some of the work they have done. Do research and fact finding to validate their own claims about how great and wonderful they are.  Forget about what they say … what are their clients saying?

Listen to my gut.  If my gut is screaming these people are full of $**t … go with that and move on. My gut is not guesswork.  My gut works like a second or back-up brain. My gut often works better for me than my brain.  This is most especially true when I am too focused on wanting to believe what I am being sold and my brain chooses to ignore the red flags.

Mr. Crappy

It happens. If you don't believe me then just ask Mr. Crappy.

Can people be too trusting?  YES!

Winning Outcome:  Find someone who truly knows how to do what I need done. Rather than hiring them to do the work for me, hire them to TEACH me how to do it myself.

That is what I have done with many aspects of my life and in my business as an Independent San Jose real estate broker. It saves a lot of money and a lot of time, angst and frustration.  I am much happier and peaceful as a result.

It is all part of my journey.  No matter what happens that is perceived to be "bad", "unexpected", or "unwanted" .... I always, ALWAYS, without fail, end up in a much better place with much better results.

Each day I embrace more fully ... It is all GOOD.  Even the "crap" that in the moment I may perceive as "bad" ... in the end (pun intended) is GOOD.

Gosh Kathleen Daniels I just like the post title as much as the content!

And that "gut" thing ... almost every time I don't trust it I get punched in it

And, may I say - Merry Christmas - or Happy Holidays

I really like the notion of trusting your gut -usually I feel that's the way to go. Life really is a journey with plenty of lessons along the way - Funny how we sometimes need to repeat them them for them to sink in.

Our lives are like doors of opportunities and we open them with care hoping we can make a start that will make it easier.  The gut insight does help as well.

Learning is part of life, as is making mistakes. Maybe "do over" is the wrong terminology. Not giving up might be a better concept.

It's hard to find a profesisonal at their craft lately, you have to weed thru this giant forest of pretenders. It's sometimes disheartening.

Kathleen, have you ever seen the movie, Defending Your Life? I think you would get a kick out of it, and the message, under the angst and humor is "life-defining". I walked out of the movie theatre totally exhilarated! And it's a very old movie, but who cares?

You get it. And I'm happy for you, because some have to go through a near-death experience to be woken up.

Happy *FEATURE*!!!

It can be very challenging  to hire the right person . . . . and even harder to firer the person that we should have hired in the first place.

Good luck and success.

Good morning, Kathleen. I've been having a problem writing my post on this subject for much of the same reason... to me, life is really not a do-over but a continuing journey where you adjust your path and destination. As for your comment on trusting your gut... that is something I've done for 45 years... and anytime I didn't is when I got into trouble.

OK...I was scrollling and looking for a post of yours to comment on, and now I have that song stuck in my head AGAIN! LOL.

Oh well. It's okay, but I need to learn all of the words to it if I'm going to keep playing it in my head.
