As many of you are aware, we have recently had an issue with points for logging in, commenting and even blogging.
As best we can tell at this point, something is off with our interal clock that keeps track of scoring and determines the start of a new day. After some rudimentary checking (meaning by me, not by our developers) it appears that somehow, some aspects of scoring are being based off the time in London, whereas historically ActiveRain's scoring system has always been based on Pacific time.
The primary reason that this has persisted was that this bug jumped up in the middle of the recent redesign efforts for profiles. We have no question that the developers will get this bug fixed as fast as they can, but we had to make the tough decision to keep them focused on finishing the profile work instead of dropping all of that to find the point bug.
Since this team is relatively new (only on the project since earlier this year), we never know how long diagnosing, and then fixing, different bugs can take. As a result, we felt keeping our heads down on the redesign was important.
One of the main reasons we made this decision is that it is our belief that once the bug is fixed, the system will go back and score things that may have been missed because of the timing issues. We have algorithms that run instantly, hourly, daily, weekly and monthly to track different scoring events. So, in theory, once this is fixed, scores for events that were missed should re-factor and leave everyone with the proper level of points.
Please be aware that we are aware, have now focused effort on finding and fixing the issue, and are sorry for any confusion this may have caused.
Also, there are a few people who have reported this over the last few weeks who never received a response from us. For this, I am personally sorry.
