Skating by the Sea at the Hotel Del Coronado 2016

 

There’s still time to enjoy the very popular Skating by the Sea at the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego, the 12th consecutive year.

 

Hotel Del Coronado in San DiegoCan you envision ice skating under a bright blue sky with the sun shining in a brilliant blue sky, palm trees waving, and the beautiful beach and ocean just steps away!

 

You may need a sweater but typically at this time of year you can expect temps in high 50s to low 60s.

 

It’s a far cry from the ice skating I remember from the Northeast in the winter!!

 

Hotel DelThe Hotel Del Coronado is a San Diego icon and has been for years. It’s a special place by the beach and ocean, and well worth a visit for dining, or just drinks, especially during the holidays when The Del is beautifully decorated.

 

There’s abundant shopping at the Del and nearby if you need another gift and great people watching, too.

 

But why not enjoy skating by the sea, or just watching the skaters?!

 

Ice skating by the sea will continue through January 2, 2017!

 

December 19 – January 2

Monday - Friday from 10 am – 10 pm

Saturdays from 10 am – 9 pm

Sundays from 11 am – 8 pm

 

The cost is $25 per person and may be limited to 90 minutes depending on how crowded it gets.  You can "rent" skates for FREE! Reserve your skating by the sea passes here!

 

A portion of the proceeds from skating by the sea benefits the Wish Kids through the Make-a-Wish Foundation of San Diego.

Wow Jeff Dowler, I did not know they ever had that there.  Do ghost skate there also?  I had my picture taken with one there 5 years ago.

Sounds like a great way to get in the holiday spirit.  Ice skating near the beach seems odd to me, but I bet people are having a blast doing it.  Out here - there are many lakes and ponds frozen over which make great skating.  I believe they offer that on Evergreen Lake.

I don't ice skate, Jeff (I'm the quintessential NYC kid who grew up rollerskating on steel skates on city sidewalks), but if I did ice skate and lived in your area, I'd surely "skate by the sea."

Such a wonderful place that I have heard good things about.  I have a friend that has a condo in the building next to it and I have been invited out to visit, but I never got the chance to do so.  It is now for sell and unfortunately, they chose a Realtor before I had a chance to refer them to one.

Jeff,  I love that hotel ... but who doesn't?  Skating by the sea would be great fun. I used to ice skate all the time when I was younger ... much younger  and I loved it.

Hi Jeff, - 46 years ago, during Xmas week, a new relationship was starting to bud.  We spent the day on Coronado Island visiting Hotel Del Coronado. It holds a special place in my heart. We have visited this fabulous historical hotel many times but have yet to stay there!

Hi Will Hamm  - well it's possible. Not sure how visible they might be outdoors in the sun!

Belinda Spillman  - I haven't skated in many years, but watching at the Del is lots of fun. There are a few other places that offer it as well, in both San Diego and LA

Nina Hollander  - I roller skated some, too, and also roller bladed. I did a fair amount of ice skating as a kid but for now I would rather watch than participate. But if I did, I'd want to skate when it's 60 degrees and not 30!

It felt odd to me when I first arrived here but now it feels normal, under the palm trees with the ocean waves in the distance! And they get quite the crowd!

Agreed George Souto  I remember skating on local ponds and freezing as a kid!

Hi Sheri Sperry - MCNE®  - what a wonderful memory of the Del. You really should celebrate there sometime. But it's fun to visit even if you stay elsewhere.

Well me neither Michael Jacobs  but I definitely enjoy watching. The last time we were there it was 65 and sunny. What a way to watch skating at the beach.
