Carlsbad Offers Free Christmas Tree Recycling

Until January 13, 2017

For those of you with Christmas trees, the City of Carlsbad offers free, curbside pickup plus drop-off bin locations for Christmas trees beginning the day after Christmas until Friday, January 13th.

Christmas treeIf you plan to take advantage of curbside pickup on your regular trash pick-up day, trees are to be placed at the end of your driveway next to your green waste bin.

NOTE: If your tree is taller than 6 feet it should be cut in half. If you can, place your tree in the Green Waste recycling bin.  Flocked trees cannot be recycled but must be picked up as trash.

Be sure to remove all decorations, lights, tinsel and tree stands before recycling.

The good news is that Carlsbad will recycle the trees by converting them into mulch that can be used throughout San Diego County.

There are also 4 convenient drop-off locations for residents to use for their tree recycling:

Calavera Hills Community Park, 2997 Glasgow Drive

Stagecoach Community Park, 3420 Camino de los Coches

Poinsettia Community Park, 6600 Hidden Valley Road

Fire Station 1, 1275 Carlsbad Village Drive

If there are any questions please feel free to contact Waste Management at (760) 929-9400, or visit the Waste Management website.

Nice offering by Carlsbad.  Locally, we have the boy scouts picking up trees - for a $5 fee which is a great fundraiser for them.

Hi Jeff - that is the good thing about live tree.  They are greener than fake ones and can be re cycled.

Good morning Jeff.  Around here the tress are taken to our lakes and used for fish habitats.  As far as I know the fish have never complained about it.

Hi Jeff -- a timely and important Localism post for many Carlsbad residents.   Proper Christmas tree disposal makes for a better community both aesthetically and for the environment.

I think these recycling posts are so important. I know if I had a real tree I would want to know and my tree comes down the day after Christmas.

Hi Lynnea Miller  - we have that option as well, at least we have in the past. I haven't seen the flyer yet.

Robert Bob Gilbert  very true - people are good about getting their trees out there for the recycling pick-up. We are fortunate to have this service!

Hi Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, Broker, Tacoma Washington  - indeed. It's a wonderful service and glad to see how it's handled.

Kathleen Daniels  - it's a wonderful service. I suspect there are other communities that do the same thing. I love the idea of recycling!
