Wordless Wednesday: Winter Wonderland in Carlsbad

Winter Wonderland in Carlsbad

We moved from New England to Carlsbad in the Spring of 2005, happy to have escaped the long cold, snowy winters of Boston. While we love the city, the weather in the winter leaves something to be desired. Many may disagree with me. But I have no regrets about leaving behind my snow shovel and ice scraper!

How fitting to share these photos, on the first day of Winter, from our house in Carlsbad back in March 2006 when a heavy sleet storm rapidly turned our green, pastoral yard and flowers into a winter wonderland. And here we thought we had escaped it!

Hi Will Hamm

Ha ha. Could be. I suspect it could happen again under the right weather conditions, and probably has in some areas just not near us. I do not miss it but it was far better than snow and it didn't last very long.

Reminds me of my 1st winter in Atlanta after growing up in Cleveland, Ohio. Never wore a coat but we did get 2 brief hail/snows that were gone by noon.

There's something quite magical about a surprise dusting of snow. Bet you enjoyed it for the little bit it lasted too. I know long term wouldn't work for you. ;)

Hi Jeff -- while rare, I have seen "snow" in otherwise sunny SoCal.  I remember showing a client relocating from Michigan a home during winter when we encountered a bit of a dusting one day.

Jeff, you actually did escape it ... however it likely may not have felt that way at the time.

Rebecca Lewis  - that's kinda rude. But could have been worse as it sometimes

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD  - well I DID enjoy it from inside!!

Belinda Spillman  - well we DID think it rather ironic, given we moved to SoCal to escape the cold and snow!

George Souto  - ha ha, NOT.  I do not miss it at all. I certainly did plenty in the 21 years I lived in New England.

Hi Michael Jacobs  - not even a dusting here, just the sleet that one time. BUt I can see it on e sseveral mountains and that's good enough for me. Or on the roads when we go to the desert in the winter.

Debe Maxwell  - fun!! It's in the high 50s and low 60s so not bad for winter. And we are getting rain which is wonderful. No white Christmas here!

Hi Endre Barath, Jr.  - nope, just 11 years. But it seems longer

Hi Kathleen Daniels  - it was really just a minor bump in the grand scheme of things. I remember going to the beach in January during our first winter and it was 75. Can't beat that!

Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, Broker, Tacoma Washington  - well it can get pretty cool (for us) some nights in the winter - down to freezing.

Ed Silva  - OK, a little. Not the winter. And summer is great without the humidity!

Steven Nickens  - you can't complain about that, can you!?

Yes indeed. I can deal with exceptions! I don't mind seeing snow, but elsewhere. There are a number of snow capped mountains we can see from the area we live in here in Carlsbad. And I can always watch the Weather Channel!
