Come on a Seahorse Farm Tour in Kona

By
Real Estate Agent with Lyon Real Estate BRE #00697006

We woke up yesterday morning fully intending to take advantage of the break in the rain at our vacation house in Hawaii and drive up to the Mauna Kea Summit. I rented a jeep specifically for this purpose. However, due to all of the unusual amount of rain on Big Island this month, which turns to snow on the mountain, the road was closed.

Never fear. There are plenty of interesting things to do in Kona. Even my husband, who was resistant to the idea, enjoyed our visit to the seahorse farm. Plus, I got to hold a seahorse! I have a photo of that experience. You can read more and see all the photographs in my personal blog today at this link: Seahorse Farm in Kona Lets Visitors Hold a Seahorse.

Elizabeth, I remember that mountain!  When I visited, we were is a powerless little subcompact that crawled to the top at about a mile per hour!  A jeep is a smarter choice by far!

Wow, that would have been the coolest Christmas gift for my grandsons. They have a couple of fish tanks and a seahorse would be such a great addition. And they are within the 24 hour range here on Oahu. Will still do it! Checking now.

Hi Elizabeth ---  While I don't desire mating seahorses, if/when I visit Kona, I'd take the tour.   What a cool experience for kids of all ages.

Patricia Kennedy It is even more important now to use a four-wheel drive because of the snow and ice on Mauna Kea. Farthest we've ever gotten was the Visitor's Center. Wah. The road has been closed for a while and I sure hope it opens while we are here. Glad you managed to get to the summit!!!

Hella Mitschke Rothwell If you don't get to it this year, you can always do it next year. Tough part would be deciding which color to get.

Michael Jacobs I maintained an aquarium for maybe 25 years but when my real estate business exploded in Sacramento, I had to get rid of it because I no longer had the time to care for it. So I would be a good candidate for a seahorse aquarium. Well, not NOW, of course; still too busy selling Sacramento real estate. Just took a listing yesterday from Hawaii.
