I recently participated in this webinar presentation that discussed using supplemental feed as a tool for managing white-tailed deer and address the pros and cons of supplemental feed use that transitions to part of a research project which focuses on specific issues with supplemental feed, such as loss to non-targets and social exclusion from the feeders. It will also addressed patterns of feed use by deer during different months of the year. It was presented by Emily Belser, Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute, and the Texas Wildlife Association and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension.

One thing that might be worth considering if you're planning to feed deer is the surrounding property owners. Deer sometimes compete with cattle, and cattle are sometimes mistaken for deer. Farmers sometimes don't lke deer for other reasons. If your location is close to a rancher or a farmer, and you want to stay their friend, look for a location that has the least effect/affect on their stock and income.
