Not sure what to say!

Real Estate Agent with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices New England Properties Licensed in Connecticut

We all celebrate different things. Sometimes I get so frustrated as I am not quite sure what to say, so the safe bet comes out of my mouth.

Happy Holidays!

There is Christmas, Hanukkah (or is that Chanukah?), Kwanza, Omisoka, Yule, Saturnalia, on and on. My guess is there are more. Then there is Santa Claus, St. Nicholas, Kris Kringle, Krampus, Ded Moroz (Grandfather Frost), Sinterklaas, and the very scary Ru-klaus, Aschenklas and Pelznickel (Rough Nicholas, Ashy Nicholas and Furry Nicholas). All this and more to make your head spin!

We do love to mix it up!

Our Christmas as we know it is such a concoction of stories and traditions woven together. Thanks to Washington Irving, Clement Moore and another anonymous writer we don't have to tell our children that they might be scooped up in a basket and dragged off for being bad! Or even worse... cut into pieces! YIKES!

I have had some fun over the past few weeks watching all sorts of documentaries about the history of Christmas. Interesting to say the least. Deeply intertwined with Yule and Saturnalia there are some great theories and realities about why we do what we do.

All that aside, no matter what you celebrate, I hope you make it the best ever! Even if I am not quite sure what to say, my hopes and wishes remain the same. Enjoy family and friends, pay it forward and spread good cheer!

So here it goes...

Happy Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, Omisoka, Yule & Saturnalia!

Happy Holidays!

Hi Andrea - If it wasn't for Christmas, none of this other stuff would be happening now, and that's good enough for me to wish you a Merry Christmas. May you have a wonderful one!

Andrea I grew up saying Merry Christamas and Happy Hannukah - as that was it for diversity in our small town.  Now I know all kinds of folks and happy to wish them - happy (insert belief system).  However we spread joy and good cheer - is all good! Merry Christmas!

This time of year, has so many holidays important to our various cultures.  I was fortunate enough to work several years at an international software company, with folks from all over the globe.  Each year, we celebrated all of the holidays, and we were all enriched because of it.  Personally, I don't believe it matters, what greeting we provide this time of year!  I'm inclusive, rather than exclusive!

I once asked a Muslim buisness owner if it was offensive to her if I wished her a Merry Christmas.  She smiled ear to ear and said, "No.  If it is a happy occasion in your culture, I am happy you think of me during it."

Merry Christmas.. I celebrate the birth of my Savior!  Others celebrate something or someone else at this time of the year.  If I knew when His birthday actually was, I would celebrate that day..  Wishing you much joy with your family and friends during this season.

I say Merry Christmas. I was born and raised as an atheist, and I am missing the religious connotation, but for me this is a Holiday, and as I say Happy new year, I say Merry Christmas.
