We all celebrate different things. Sometimes I get so frustrated as I am not quite sure what to say, so the safe bet comes out of my mouth.
Happy Holidays!
There is Christmas, Hanukkah (or is that Chanukah?), Kwanza, Omisoka, Yule, Saturnalia, on and on. My guess is there are more. Then there is Santa Claus, St. Nicholas, Kris Kringle, Krampus, Ded Moroz (Grandfather Frost), Sinterklaas, and the very scary Ru-klaus, Aschenklas and Pelznickel (Rough Nicholas, Ashy Nicholas and Furry Nicholas). All this and more to make your head spin!
We do love to mix it up!
Our Christmas as we know it is such a concoction of stories and traditions woven together. Thanks to Washington Irving, Clement Moore and another anonymous writer we don't have to tell our children that they might be scooped up in a basket and dragged off for being bad! Or even worse... cut into pieces! YIKES!
I have had some fun over the past few weeks watching all sorts of documentaries about the history of Christmas. Interesting to say the least. Deeply intertwined with Yule and Saturnalia there are some great theories and realities about why we do what we do.
All that aside, no matter what you celebrate, I hope you make it the best ever! Even if I am not quite sure what to say, my hopes and wishes remain the same. Enjoy family and friends, pay it forward and spread good cheer!
So here it goes...
Happy Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, Omisoka, Yule & Saturnalia!
