Getting Dressed Up For The Holidays in the Pasadena Area

Upper Hastings Ranch Holiday Light UpDespite rumors to the contrary, not every Californian spends the holidays in flip flops, shorts and t-shirts...not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Take a tour around the Pasadena area during this time of the year and you will find many examples of communities taking on a some especially festive appearances.   On beautiful tree-lined streets.   Character and architecturally significant homes Pasadena City Hall At Christmasfrom every era become even more attractive.  Public places which stand out year-round look particularly joyful when all decked-out. This is an area rich in history and that tradition, however the word is defined, makes our area even more special during the holidays.

My personal approach to holiday decorating is more minimal so I feel fortunate to be able to take advantage of the many opportunities to see what exists in the world surrounding me.

In this post, I share the following photos:

The feature(top) photo was taken in the Stats Floral Supply store on South Raymond Avenue in the Old Pasadena area.  While the store is much slimmer in inventory levels than in the past, it is still open for business after an earlier announcement that it would be closing.  It’s been a Pasadena destination for Christmas and holiday decorating for over 50 years.  I hope it continues to be successful and a part of the community for a long time.

Photo number 2 is from the Upper Hastings Ranch neighborhood where the annual Upper Hastings Ranch Holiday Light Up occurs each December. While it is incredible to see at night, I’m including this daytime photo as I think it’s really eye-catching.  There are many new displays this year and as always lots of lights.

Photo number 3 is Pasadena City Hall and one of my favorite buildings. As evidenced by its many appearances in movies, television and in advertising, believe me City Hall is always ready for a close-up shot with its beautiful architecture.

Paseo Colorado

Photo number 4 above is at Paseo Colorado overlooking the Garfield Promenade.

The next photo below is number 5, and can be found in the nearby city of San Marino on pretty St Albans Road.

Balian House in Altadena

Photo number 6 is the Balian House in Altadena on Mendocino Lane just east of Allen Avenue just north of Pasadena.

Photo number 7 is in the city of South Pasadena on Diamond Avenue between Monterey Road and El Centro Avenue where this portion of the street is very much aglow with decorations and lights.

Thank you to Debbie Laity for once again hosting this ActiveRain challenge to share some holiday spirit.

I wish you the happiest of holiday seasons with best wishes in 2017 and beyond.   Cheers!

Looks like a very nice Christmas in Pasadena and as an Oklahoman who spends Christmas is Florida the shorts and flip flops are a welcome change.

My first visit to California was the Laurel Canyon and the Valley in 1969. I was delighted to see Santa Clauses tied to palm trees. Your holiday photos of Pasadena at Christmas are lovely. The best I did this year in Hawaii was hang two wreathes with red ribbons on either side of our garage door. LOL.

Thanks everyone for stopping by and your comments.  I appreciate the support.

Belinda Spillman --- when my niece got married in June this year --- she had some fun flip flops available for guests at her reception for dancing.

I can probably count the number of times I have worn flip flops -- decorated or otherwise -- nothing wrong with them for others -- just not my choice.   Do you think it's odd to wear wingtip shoes at the beach like Richard Nixon?
