Great Horned OWL'let photo 12262016

I love to see our wildlife thrive in the Laveen area.  One of the main reasons I moved here, was because I love having a little elbow room between home owners.  Along with the elbow room, we also allow for more wildlife.  It is really not unusual to see a coyote, every so often.  Hell, I've even come across a couple of snakes, thankfully mostly are not the poisonous kind.

Below though, is one of my favorites, the great horned owl.  This one, is what you'd likely call a juvenile, so not yet fully grown.  They do end up being pretty large.  Help keep the rodent population down, and I have lost the occasional chicken too.

Nice photo!  We have them here too... along with a plethora of wildlife ... deer, fox, coyote, snakes... even had a rattler a couple of years ago.  We enjoy the life in the foothills of CA where the red tail hawk soars...

Keeping the rodent population down is always a good thing in my book.It should grow up to be quite a majestic bird! Thank you for sharing.
