Staying in touch with clients: Call me Retro!

By
Real Estate Agent with RLAH Real Estate AB95346

Tonight after I sign off of ActiveRain, I will perform my major annual staying in touch ritual.

Now, throughout the year, I try to stay in touch with what I think of as "Schmooze Calls" made to clients because there is something I want to tell them or because I just want to call to check in and perhaps exchange festive gossip.  I'm not calling to ask them for business.

I also follow a lot of them on Facebook, and I do comment on their posts and the pictures of their new additions and or grandchildren.  But again, it's just to remind them that I'm here.

Then every year, I do what I'm about to do tonight.

This year, most of the people I know crawled under a rock after the election and are finally starting to emerge back into the land of the living.  There were fewer parties this year than I've seen in a long time. So I decided to throw a little party to ring out the season - an Un-Decorating the Tree party in mid-January.

The invitations are going out both email and snail mail tomorrow.  And it provides a wonderful excuse for follow-up phone calls, which I'll begin over the weekend.

I do some sort of party around the holidays almost every year.  And every year, I seem to be able to create bonds with my base.

Many of the people who come have gotten to know one another, and many of the people from my sphere of influence already knew one another from time they shared in one of my past lives.

The sphere that plays together stays together!

How interesting!  I just had this conversation with myself this morning.  I have a couple New Years resolutions.  And, at the top of the list was to bring out everything old and make it new once again, when it comes to staying in touch.

Pat- this is a great way to stay in touch and it's so natural!  It also is a way of having those in your sphere meet each other.

Jeff, it took so long to get all of the ornaments on that I like to enjoy it for a while.

Nathan and Angie, I'm afraid that my friends drink way too much for me to have a party that involves tall ladders!

Myrl, I really do think that most of old is better than most of new when it comes to staying in touch.

Kathy, so many of the people in my sphere do know each other.  We all worked together with either Nader or airline deregulation.  Or they live in my neighborhood or are relatives.  And some of them have been coming to these things for so long that they got to know one another in my house.  And that really makes it fun.

Hi Patricia Kennedy , That's a good reason to have a party and keep in touch at the same time.  Have fun!  (Thanks for participating in my December contest)

You'll have to take pictures of the event and do a post about it. It would make a great YouTube video with a little mix of still and video. Cool idea!

Particia,

At the end of the day, adding value to client relationships and staying “top of mind” in any way it is comfortable for both sides means more business in the form of referrals and repeat transactions. There is nothing wrong with saying ''I just wanted to say hi'':)
