An Alternative to A New Year's Resolution

If you can't fly then run,

If you can't run then walk,

If you can't walk then crawl,

But whatever you do

You have to keep moving forward

Before making that New Year's resolution, consider an alternative. The problem I have with making New Year resolutions are forgetfulness, failure, and fate, that are beyond my control. In 2017, I'm going to move forward by focusing on 3 main goals. They are health, education, and welfare. You may follow my blueprint and if you remember this post about the same time next year, leave me a comment to let me know how it went for you or any comments now would be appreciated too! Have a wonderful New Year!

HEALTH

Pro: Eat right. Sleep right. Exercise body, mind, and spirit.

Con: If you can't afford to stay healthy, you can't afford to be sick.

Think of your body as a car. If it doesn't get fuel and stay lubricated, it doesn't function or work as it was intended. An automobile may be replaced but an entire human being can't. Parts cost money that most people can't afford. With or without is hard enough.

EDUCATION

Pro: Educate yourself and bring value to others.

Con: If you pay to get educated, it doesn't guarantee success.

Staying current and relevant to what you do increases knowledge and brings value to others. Do your homework before enrolling in any costly education to determine how it will benefit you or others. Understand that if you pay for education, it doesn't mean you'll be successful. I know of no education that comes with a money-back guarantee.

WELFARE

Pro:  Stay good. Be happy. Be safe.

Con: Grumpy, crabby people operate in a high-stakes society feeling rejected.

Autonomy has value over and beyond being controlled by any entity, man, drugs, alcohol, bad habits or any form addiction. As I close the chapter on 2016, I plan to move forward in any way I can! This is my alternative to a New Year's resolution and I plan to keep myself accountable to good health, education, and welfare. Happy New Year everyone!!!

Sounds like you have the perfect idea.  Resolutions don't usually last past the first week or two.  Just focus on what is right for you and move on - that's what I say.

Good Morning, Belinda Spillman - When I was a kid, my parents always said, "Look before you leap!" I never exactly knew what they were talking about, because in my neighborhood, we didn't have any local bridges, rivers, or cliffs. I finally figured out that whatever I do, I better think things through carefully before making the wrong move and know that if I don't do anything, I'll never move forward in life.

Have a wonderful day!!!

Patricia,

We are not resolution makers either.  We just pick a concept and go for it, and I am glad you have your way mapped.  Wishing you a great rest of the year.  A

Good Morning, Beth Atalay - I like that we are on the same page! That's one of the main reasons why I know I would recommend all buyers and sellers to contact you. You're smart and very dependable! They would be in good hands!

Wishing you peaceful nights until this year is over and the beginning of a wonderful and great New Year!

Resolutions fail because the person making them is not making the full commitment to succeed.  Anything I resolve to do is worth starting at the time I resolved to start it...not waiting for the New Year to put it in place. I like your 3 pronged approach - much success in 2017.

BTW - I love the MLK quote you chose!!!

Patricia, I've never been one to make NY Resolutions and I'm sure I get that from my parents as they don't either. I agree 100% with your post. Wonderful suggestions.

I'm not one to make full-blown resolutions, Patricia Feager ... it seems to me that (as you point out) ... fate intervenes too often and I only end-up frustrated.  Resolving to do the best I can ... as often as I can ... in everything I do ... seems more manageable.  Love the post, as always ...

Hope you have a very Happy New Year!

Gene

I'm not a New Year's Resolution kind of girl. But I do have to say I did quit smoking after the new year in 2007. It was some time in early January and it was not a resolution. I just quit because I was going on an Alaskan cruise that May and I didn't want to have to worry about where I could smoke. Haven't smoked since. PTL!! Happy New Year sweet one!

Hi Patricia -- I like your approach and how you have presented it here.   Smart and easy to remember.   One day at a time because time is important(and finite).
