As I write this, it is 10am on December 31st and CNN informed me that it is already 2017 in Sydney, Australia. Happy New Year! As you celebrate the new year, there are cliches you're likely to hear tonight. Someone will wear something glittery and someone else will affectionately refer to them as The Ball. Someone will make a joke about kissing the family pet at midnight because they’re single. Some cliches will be with us forever, other trends come and need to go.
If your resolution is to update your home decor this year, I have scoured the interwebs and come up with the experts top interior trends for 2017.
Greenery, specifically Pantone 15-0343 is the 2017 Color of the Year.
Pantone, the company that makes color their life's work has determined that Greenery "is a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew."
Painting an entire room in the color might be a bit too much. Splashes of the color with smartly-designed accessories, lamps, and furniture are great ways to incorporate the trend.
"Greenery is paired with neutrals, brights, deeper shades, pastels, metallics and even the enduring presence of PANTONE Color of the Year 2016, Rose Quartz and Serenity. These palettes easily cross over fashion, beauty, product and graphic design applications."
More information on Greenery and colors can be seen on the Pantone website.
Terracotta
Yes, you read that right. Terracota is making a comeback in a big way.
Every blog and article I've read claims terracotta will be replacing popular white tones.
Terracotta pots, matte tiles, and home decor accessories will all see a resurgence in 2017. What is the orangish clay replacing? The end of 2016 brings the end of the copper trend.
“Warm metals like copper, brass and rose gold will continue to be on trend for autumn/winter 2016, but as we move into summer 2017 you’ll see a shift away from this super polished look,” says Diane Cocksey, Senior Interior Decorator at Freedom. Photo by Sonora West Development, Inc. -
