Committed to Community Service Year Round
I love seeing all of the posts about coat drives, food drives and toy drives around the holidays. Folks are in a giving mood and there is a lot of good done for those less fortunate during November and December.
I have a secret for you.
There are many in need at times other than the holidays, way too many. There are a lot of great organizations that help people year round, but too often like Old Mother Hubbard, the cupboards are bare.
I know that the Real Estate industry as a whole is a very generous group. They rally the troops and do amazing things in their own communities. I love that most real estate/mortgage and title companies also have National initiatives. Truly amazing.
As you make your resolutions or set your intentions for 2017, I encourage you to find small ways to help those in need every month, not just during the holidays!
One of the things we do as a family is help a small grassroots group to provide lunches for the Westside Men's Shelter in Catonsville, MD. The first Tuesday of each month, our group has a goal to provide at least 100 lunches to the shelter. Each person is only obligated to provide 5 lunches, some will do more, some many more. It may not sound like a lot, but a full belly and knowing that someone cares can go a long way.
If you are interested in helping our group to provide a nourishing meal, drink and snacks to this at-risk population, please let me know, I will be happy to get you in touch with the amazing woman who leads our group. Drop off in Catonsville Monday night or Tuesday AM.
A few more groups in the area that always can use help:
Comfort Cases provides backpacks/bags, and essentials to foster children. #nomoretrashbags
"Breaking Bread with the Hungry" St. Vincent de Paul Church in partnership with Our Lady of the Fields -serves dinner to 200-300 homeless every Friday evening in the undercroft at 120 Front Street. Servers/Helpers/Setup and Cleanup needed.
Our Daily Bread serves meals to more than a quarter of a million people in Baltimore City. Nutritious lunches are served every day of the year and breakfast is served to seniors and individuals with disabilities each weekday.
Samaritan's Purse-You may be familiar with the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox campaign, but did you know that they also provide help for Natural Disasters and can use year round help?
Public schools and Senior Centers love volunteers too!
If you don't do something already, find something that will allow you to share your gifts throughout the year and make the world a better place! I bet you will get more out of it than you give!
