Have You Ever Needed a Vacation to Get Over a Vacation?

By
Real Estate Agent with Elizabeth Anne Weintraub, Broker DRE #00697006

When I made the reservations for my flight to Hawaii last year, I had thought we would spend a good part of our vacation furnishing the house and furniture shopping. As it turned out, we didn't. However, I did manage to buy a dining room table, which you see pictured here. The tenants, who are moving back into my house today, don't want it stored in the garage because they don't want to be responsible for it.

At least that's their story and they're sticking to it. They could be holding wild sex parties in the garage for all I know. Selling drugs out of that spare refrigerator.

For those of you who have followed my stories on Big Island, I'm leaving the island today. But hey, I have a new island to hang out on. A place where I won't be tempted to buy dining room tables that I have no place to store. As always, you can read more about this story in my personal blog today at this link: Why I Need a Vacation From my Vacation in Hawaii.

More than once, Elizabeth... I've needed a vacation from my vacation... maybe that's why I don't go on them very often anymore! Welcome back.

Michael J. Perry I don't get home to Sacramento until a week from Saturday, so I'll have a couple of days to unwind / unpack before my first listing appointment of the year on that following Monday.

Nina Hollander When I mentioned having another island to hang out on, it means I am flying to an island today not Sacramento, LOL. I'm easing into coming back to Sacramento, very slowly . . .

Good morning, Elizabeth -- I have been following your adventures during your worcation and certainly understand for a need for a vacation.  In addition to your Sacramento business you've had plenty to do around your new home and definitely not enough umbrella drink time.  Here's to some more restful times ahead although it's likely to be over very soon.

Michael Jacobs One of the first things I'm gonna fix . . . umbrella drink time, LOL. I've been holding off ordering my favorite vacation cocktail in Hawaii, generally because I have to be the designated driver. I have an urge for a Tropical Itch, and I collect those little back scratchers they serve in them, too. I don't know why. They are useless when the numbers exceed one. You don't need 10 to scratch your back. But I can't throw them away . . .

Elizabeth, it always take me a week to recover from a vacation.

Mike Frazier My rule of thumb is one day for every hour of time change is required to get back into the swing of things back home.

That's so funny. When my mom and I got to Venice, we stay for a couple weeks. In the middle, we head to Florence for a few days...vacation inside a vacation. It's become a trend of mine....a main location and then a night or two someplace else in the middle.

Sounds like you earned that 10 day stay at the Maui resort.  Enjoy.

When we bought our condo in Jupiter we had 7 days there and were so busy refurnishing it and having other work done we didn't even make it to the ocean for the first 5 days.

Maui No Ka Oi - Maui is the Best - was coined by a friend of mine, Vonnie Lyons, talented artist on the Big Island of Hawaii and the wife of the late cartoonist Harry Lyons. And you will be staying at a hotel for which I used to do public relations back in the 70's, that one and 11 others around the islands. You will have a blast being waited on hand and foot after doing all that work on your own home on the Big Island. In the meantime, I've been working with clients who think Oahu is no ka oi looking at luxury condos here.

Karen Fiddler, Broker/Owner I call that "as long as we're, we may as well," you know, the Greece and Turkey option, LOL. Actually, as long as we're going to Mexico to see the butterflies, we may as well spend time in Mexico City, and as long as we're doing that, we may as well fly to Oaxaca. Which is what we are doing in February, LOL.

Chris Ann Cleland It's not as nice as some resorts. This hotel in Ka'anapali does not compare to the Fairmont or Four Seasons in Wailea. On the other hand, it is refreshing not to be pawed over.

Joe Pryor In my own weird way, that's exactly what I am trying to avoid by picking out furnishings now, so I can relax and enjoy our time during the next visit.

Hella Mitschke Rothwell I have a sneaky feeling this hotel in Ka'anapali looks exactly the same as remember it from the 1970s.
