Spaghetti is one of my favorite meals, so a day to celebrate by eating spaghetti sounds delicious to me!
Did you know that spaghetti is just one of over 600 shapes of pasta. Not surprisingly, it is one of the most popular shapes. The word spaghetti means "thin string".
While today we associate spaghetti with Italy, Arabic people sold dried spaghetti-like noodles in open markets back in the early 1200's according to www.holidayinsights.com. And pasta was cooked in China as far back at 5000 BC.
Thomas Jefferson brought spaghetti back from Naples, Italy in 1789. With the later influx of Italian immigrants, spaghetti became familiar to many Americans. Today each American eats about 20 pounds of pasta per year.
