  1. The $5 Rule

For the next year, commit to saving every $5 bill you come across. If you save one $5 bill every week for one year, you will end up with $260.

  2. Reward Yourself

Every time you do a good deed, give yourself $1. Save these dollars together and after they add up, you'll have a fund for treating yourself!

  3. The 365 Day Challenge

Put away 1¢ for every day you do the challenge. For example,

    Day 1: Save 1¢
    Day 2: Save 2¢
    Day 100: Save $1.00
    Day 365: Save $3.65

By the end of the year, you will have saved $667.95!

  4. Stop a Bad Habit

If you're trying to cut down on sweets or clean up your language, charge yourself $1 for every cookie you sneak or swear word you say. You'll either be saving money for a rainy day, or crushing a bad habit (or both).

  5. Spend on a Friend

This trick can help you give to a friend who deserves to be appreciated. Drop $1 in a jar every time a loved one does something nice or makes you feel cared for. Then take them out to lunch, your treat!

Christopher, so many potential buyers tell me they cannot save money for their downpayment, but drink Starbucks several times a day.  Great tips!
