Whaler's Village and the Ka'anapali Beach Hotel

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Gold DRE #00697006

The meal presented to me at the Ka'anapali Beach Hotel (above) looked like something my mother made for dinner in the 1950s. Not that there is anything wrong with home cooking and comfort food, but it's not exactly what I had in mind when I wanted to splurge on an upscale meal. Since I'm on my wor-cation in Maui on Ka'anapali Beach, I figure I can go anywhere I want, why not try to the Westin or the Sheraton?

Besides, there is a shopping village here called Whaler's Village. You can catch a shuttle bus for $2.00 into Lahaina and go to another shopping village, if shopping is your thing. Or catch a movie in Lahaina, or a sunset dinner cruise, both of which I might do. You can read more about that day and see all the photos in my personal blog at this link: You Wanna Stay Outta Whaler's Village But You Cannot.

That dish looks scrumptious to me, Elizabeth!  I miss the relaxed atmosphere of the islands.  It always takes me a week to get back up to speed when I return to the mainland.

Myrl Jeffcoat  that's probably because you prefer home-cooked meals over five star restaurants. 💕 I was hoping for something a little bit more extravagant. 🍷 I also did not like the stemware, yes I am a wine glass snob.

The story you tell of being tempted by that octopus pendant reminds me of my days in the jewelry business.  I bought way too much stuff that I don't wear.  And that pendant is probably a $2K cost, if that.  Jewelry mark up is ridiculous...which is why I bought so much when I worked in the industry.

Whaler's Village sounds delightful.  I was mesmerized by the netted lily pad climbing thing for kids.  Kept picturing what would have happened to me as a kid...falling down and not being able to have my mom get to be for the netting.  Of course, I'm sure the netting is protect the little ones.

Chris Ann Cleland I can see the Tahitian pearl having value due to its size, and being perfectly round and white, but those sapphires are nothing more than chips, and you can hardly see them. Well, if a benefactor doesn't take pity on me, I guess I'll wait until the octopus becomes a "retired" piece . . . but even 50% off wouldn't make me buy it. Too expensive for what you get. I believe you!

Hi Elizabeth -- while each photo and your story telling ability is great, I'm glad to see you saved the best for last.  After all, every worcation deserves a refreshing treat at the end(or middle, if need be) of a day.  Enjoy!   Time is quickly bringing an end to this particular adventure.

Hi Elizabeth: Did you order the 350 calorie plate lunch? Except for the sauce/gravy. I presume that was ono (by the way, the bigger the fish, the smaller its Hawaiian name) which I would have liked more without it, if its fresh and broiled.

Well, there's some truth about your comment to my comment, Elizabeth.  While I generally love grocery shopping and thinking up meals in my head, you tend to head for the phone for reservations. . .tsk, tsk!

Michael Jacobs Well, you know, that Tropical Itch was just for you, even without the backscratcher or, as we call them around my house, cat toys.

Hella Mitschke Rothwell Almost all the fish is ono. They act as though it is a big surprise to them that it's the catch of the day. I see what you mean about the 350 calorie meal, LOL.

Except for the expense, Myrl Jeffcoat what ill will do you harbor toward fine dining? I don't get your "tsk tsk" against 5-star restaurants.
