Tell Us About Your Favorite Rock on January 7, Old Rock Day
by Silicon Valley REALTOR Michelle Carr Crowe
Do you like searching for interesting old rocks, gems or fossils? Then Old Rock Day, January 7th, may be the holiday for you. Not every holiday can be traced to a particular place, person or point of origin, including Old Rock Day.
How do people in Silicon Valley celebrate “Old Rock Day”? Good ways include visiting a rock shop, barbecuing on coal (old rocks) picking up a pretty rock to start a rock collection, hiking a trail of old rocks, searching for fossils on a field trip, or (my favorite) buying a new (to me) “old rock”, jewelry in particular.
On one of our family trips to Yosemite with my late mother Judy Carr, we stopped at a random rock and pawn shop. Together we discovered and bought a cool old gold and turquoise ring to share.
Buying a new old rock is my idea of a great way to celebrate “Old Rock Day”. My daughter recently visited Yosemite and took several photos of “old rocks” including El Capitan and Half-Dome. Sharing a story about a favorite old rock is one more fun way to enjoy “Old Rock Day”.
