Get Out Your Crystal Balls: What is your prediction for 2017 Contest

This AR challenge pressures me to deliver a 2017 forecast for the world and the impact it will have on the Real Estate industry. Do I predict 2017 will be a year of hope or fear? Prosperity or failure? In reality, the world lives in uncertainty. To answer the questions about hope or fear; prosperity or failure, I have to go back in time.

TIME TRAVELER

My High School was a four-year business school to prepare me for the business world. In preparation for graduation, it was my job to secure a job before graduation. The first interview was set up on the corner of Broadway and Lawrence, the headquarters of a major insurance company in Chicago. Upon arrival, I went through a battery of routine pre-employment testing. When I completed all the tests, the lady in charge of Personnel told me, "Congratulations, your test scores came back at the top of the 20 percentile. All you need to do next is meet the owner and he will decide whether or not you'll work here."

The interview went well. I remember the man with the funny little mustache wearing a black suit and bow tie. I could tell he was impressed. Then he asked one final question. It is the most important question in your entire life, is what he said. "If the company wants you to work overtime, would you work for free?" I gave him the answer I thought he wanted to hear, replying, "Yes!" To my chagrin, he stood up and said, if you don't value yourself to earn the money you worked for, I don't value you either." With that said, W. Clement Stone, one of the richest, most famous millionaires in Chicago at that time, author of Positive Mental Attitude said, "Thank you and goodbye!"

The lesson learned is I value myself enough to provide quality services to earn the income at the end of a transaction in Real Estate without wasting other people's time. I will not risk taking a client without getting paid for a successful closing. Fast-forward:

PREDICTIONS: WILL 2017 BE A YEAR OF PROSPERITY OR FAILURE

2016 was my best year in Real Estate. The year in review was a success in business and personal life. I predict a promising New Year for both prosperity and failure for my myself and clients I serve.

"Like success, failure is many things to many people. With Positive Mental Attitude, failure is a learning experience, a rung on the ladder, a plateau at which to get your thoughts in order and prepare to try again." --- W. Clement Stone

2017 will be a year of many changes. It begins with a new political administration. I do believe we will see more jobs available, but will the people who have been out of work for so long get hired and be able to keep their jobs? For those who manage to secure good jobs, will they be compensated fairly or will they find themselves in a competitive rat race with a" take-it or leave it," attitude?

"Success is achieved and maintained by those who try and keep trying." --- W. Clement Stone

In a world of uncertainty, one thing is certain:  a positive mental attitude is critical to learning. Some will soar with success; others will fail. For those that are confident (healthy body, mind, and spirit, competent with excellent technology and communication skills), I believe they will have an easier time achieving greater success. A sense of belonging and home ownership will matter. I predict more relocation, more seniors will sell and need to find more suitable homes to live in, whether that means extended family living, a 55+ Community, Condo, or apartment and more millennials will need homes closer to cities where the job market is more promising. There will be issues with homes that have been neglected over time and this will increase the number of investors who will flip or turn homes into rental properties. New construction will continue to rise from abandoned farmlands, vacant lots, and areas where building structures crumbled. I predict more construction loans for raw land and movement by people who desire to build in areas not considered previously. We need new construction with energy savings to move us forward into the future, better infrastructure, bridges, and Commercial buildings. Old and hazardous building have to come down or be rehabbed. Taxes and properties will likely go up.

I predict 2017 will give more people hope. There may be danger, that some false hope could lead to failure. Fear is the enemy of success. Fear is contagious! It spreads like cancer. Making assumptions based on gossip, hearsay, the media, and inaccurate information from the wrong sources will likely lead to depression, sickness, and more poverty. Failure doesn't have to be the worst thing that can happen. Failure can be the best thing that paves it's way to more success than struggling in a place where one feels stuck. Failure doesn't have to be a bad thing. "Keep trying," is great advice from W. Clement Stone! Whether there is a problem with a job, failed marriage, the kids, or the inability to qualify for a loan doesn't define who you are.

Prospective buyers and sellers need the best, most qualified people in the Real Estate Industry to help guide them. If we learned anything from 2016 elections the media and the INTERNET are not reliable sources. Working with people you know, like, and trust should always be truthful, understanding, and helpful in guiding you to achieve your goals. The first step is to have a "Positive Mental Attitude," and know who to go to who can help you achieve your goals.

"All personal achievement starts in the mind of the individual. Your personal achievement starts in your mind. The first step is to know exactly what your problem, goal or desire is." --- W. Clement Stone

Hi Patricia Feager - I reiterate what others have said before me. I love your segment on time traveler!  "I gave him the answer I thought he wanted to hear"! We learn through our experience and knowledge which should lead us to wisdom.  You have certainly reached that pinnacle and dare I say will move that high pointeven higher once again this year.

Sheri Sperry - MCNE® - your comment is most meaningful to me. I can tell you read each word and listened to what I had to say. I am grateful to have readers like you who understand where I am coming from and are interested in me. May there be wisdom in all of us, especially our new political administration and those who have a direct impact on how they conduct business and provide services to others. I pray for positive mental attitude to make our country strong again.

Kathleen Daniels - We are all only human. As a service provider, we have big shoes to fill but we can't let our ego get in the way. Here's one more quote by W. Clement Stone that inspires wisdom:

Have the courage to say no. Have the courage to face the truth. Do the right thing because it is right. These are the magic keys to living your life with integrity.

Patricia, an excellent entry for this contest. No one knows what tomorrow will bring, just be the best we can today.  I had to go to the ER this morning as I thought I was having a heart attack. Severe pain, left chest area... scary! My heart is fine, but will follow up with a stress test.  So, if we had a crystal ball we would know what tomorrow will bring... since we don't live for today!  As always, I enjoy reading your blog. Have a wonderful weekend! It is very cold here, so we of course are staying inside

Rebecca Gaujot, the Go To Realtor® - I will keep you in my prayers. It's 7:06 p.m. my time and I'm afraid to call you. Would it be okay to call you tomorrow? This must have been a very scary morning. I pray everything is okay. This is not the way you want to start the New Year. I hope it warms up there too and that I get to talk to you soon.

Warm Hugs,

Patricia

Patricia wow now that's intersting that you interviewed with Clement Stone - he was one of my early mentors. What a lesson you learned at a very young age - I probably would have said the same thing at that age!  I also probably would have challenged him on his thinking!!  Because if you love what you do that's what matters, it's not about the money.  The money comes when we do what we love.  Sorry Clement!!!

Anna Banana Kruchten - I often wonder how my life would have been different if I had said no to Clement Stone? As a result, I took a different path and you were fortunate to have him as a mentor! And here we are, connected in the industry we are in and members of ActiveRain. Isn't that interesting? You poked my curiosity about what else you learned from him.

What a wonderful review and prediciton. Fascinating that you met the man, W. Clement Stone, like Napoleon Hill only someone I have heard or read about. Not sure other than not giving you a job how much impact he had on your life, but it seems he did give you a very positive outlook and one filled with hope and a desire to do what is right.

Well done...well said Patricia!

When I first started my staging business I worked for free many times and I had discounts for real estate agents and stayed longer at consults without charging....all because I didn't value my time.

I've come a long way since then and I know the value of what I offer now. No more freebies!

I love how you carried W. Clement Stone throughout the post....beginning with your important life lesson you learned from him!

Nick & Trudy Vandekar - I remember that day I interviewed with W. Clement Stone so vividly. At the time, I didn't know who he was. I was only 17. When I got home and my dad asked me about the interview, I told him all the details, that's when he told me who W. Clement Stone was and how sorry he was for me to get that far in the interview and blow my chances with that last question. He said, "Well, now you learned something."

Patricia Feager - some lessons are expensive, but as they say, as long as you learn the lesson and don't have to keep paying for it over and over each time it arises it was money/time well spent. I am intrigued by Anna Banana Krutchen having him as a mentor, was that through books or in real life?

Nick & Trudy Vandekar my oldest brother used to 'drag' me to all kinds of  'postive thinking' seminars which at first I didn't really understand as I was so young. But I came to appeciate that he actually took it upon himself to share that whole world  of thinking and beging with me!! It has stuck with me all these years and I've continued on the 'postive' journey all my life - thankfully!

Sharon Tara - I am overwhelmed by all the wonderful and positive comments on my post. Hearing your story reminds me of how many people get started in the Real Estate business.... so eager to please and get some jobs under our belt, we'd work for free! When we signed up to provide a service, most didn't know how it works with regards to compensation. It's a painful lesson and those who learn usually succeed with fortitude or get out of the business.

Thank you for sharing your story. I sincerely appreciate it very much!

Patricia Feager see the answer I just left for Nick & Trudy!  Little did I know way back when how fortunate I was so be immersed in that kind of thinking all those years ago. I think I was about 18 or so when I went to the first semianar - that one might have been more based on Norman Vincent Peal - pretty much the same as Clement if I remember right.

Hi Patricia Feager, I'm going to save this post and read it throughout the year. If you were to be graded for your posts, you would be in the honor roll.
There will be ups and downs, good, bad, healthy days, sick days but one thing we have to remember is our attitude is a game changer in everything.
When I was praying this morning, I wished there was a messenger who could appear before me and talk some sense into me and comfort me. About three hours later, one of my seller clients called me to tell me she wanted to share some things with me....she was that messenger...
After I asked for that messenger, I believed I would receive it and that I did!
Your post was also that message I needed to hear today. My heart is heavy with everything that's going on in our world, bombings, killings...another police officer was shot and killed this morning and the killer is on the run, several schools are at a lock-down. I believe 2017 is going to be a great year, we will see many good things happen, I like to concentrate on those and count my blessings every day.

Dear Beth Atalay - In one of Kathy Streib's recent posts after the Airport shooting (she was distressed about it, too), I commented that I wish there was something like a Counseling Station on TV, similar to the Weather Channel to help us cope with these heinous crimes. They are in excess; perhaps intended to weaken our spirits, our bodies, and our mind.

We can not allow mind control to penetrate our psyche. Prayer and meditation are the answer. Thank you for pouring our your heart and soul to me. I am grateful that you shared and considered me to have been one of the messengers. I will always be there for you, Beth. We are more than humans, we are travelers in the rain on ActiveRain who support each other and offer hope for overcoming life's obstacles. We all need to practice positive thinking. The challenge is, we must be vigilant without letting fear take over the good.

May I leave you with this powerful thought for today: "Whatever we dwell upon in our conscious mind grows in excess."
