Community bonfire for a great cause in Frisco, Co

The Town of Frisco turns recycling into a community event

Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree! Thy leaves are so unchanging.

The holidays are all about traditions and memories, and the Christmas tree is the strongest symbol of them all. According to the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), North Americans buy about 33 million fresh cut Christmas trees every year. We enjoy them throughout the holidays, but when the season is over our attention turns to packing up the decorations until next year.

While artificial Christmas trees can be dismantled and stowed away with the rest of the seasonal decor, live Christmas trees will need to be disposed of somehow. Before you toss your tree out with the trash, consider the options for recycling your Christmas tree and you might discover just how easy it is to get it out of the house and do something good for the environment at the same time.

If that is a route you may be considering, the Town of Frisco has created an event just for that. Through February 3, 2017, the town’s authorities are accepting Christmas trees to fuel the Spontaneous Combustion, a bonfire occurring on Saturday, February 4, 2017. Trees must be stripped of all lights, tinsel, garland, tree stands, and decorations prior to drop off at the Frisco Bay Marina dirt lot at the corner of Summit Boulevard/Highway 9 and Marina Road. Remember, only real trees will be accepted. The drop off is open 24 hours a day.

Spontaneous Combustion

Spontaneous Combustion on Saturday, February 4, 2017 is a community celebration, which features a bonfire and fireworks, as well as beverage and chili sales to benefit the Summit Nordic Ski Club. The Spontaneous Combustion bonfire fueled by Christmas trees will begin at 6:00 p.m. with fireworks at 8:00 p.m.

The event will take place at the Frisco Bay Marina at the intersection of Marina Rd. and Summit Boulevard. Nearby communities include the luxury townhome-style condos Marina ParkWater DanceMountain SideLagoon Townhomes, and Bay Club Condos.
