Weltanschauung: It’s a New Year 2017 what is my view of the Active Rain Community and the interaction?
It seems, every year I get asked by my friend Lynn B. Friedman to participate in this Jumpstart Challenge. I am lucky that I forget fast as to how challenging her request is and it hits me when she sends out the Contest Rules and reminders to participate and I have already committed myself to participate. Now I could take the easy way and pull out my old post and cut and paste it, but that would be no fun. After all, “change” is the only constant in the life of an Active Rain member as well as in this Beverly Hills Realtor’s life. Keeping in mind change is good if we make the changes. So, with that said, I just barely figured out the year and darn, here comes 2017 is one way of looking at it. An alternative view says, we have a new opportunity to have a new look on how we treat the community and its old I mean long term members as well as the new members.
The older I get, the easier it is for me to follow the original founders of Active Rain’s objectives and principals. How is that possible? Well either I am a slow learner or I have been beaten down so much, that my sharp tongue has been sanded off over the years, or I have just become more tolerant of inefficiency all around me, or the lack of client service in every profession and the list goes on and on. So, when something does not go as efficiently or to my high expectations even here on this great platform, now I just shrug my shoulders and move on. I do not snap at the person who wrote a nasty comment on my post. Nor do I delete it, instead I let the rest of the community see who wrote the ‘bad comment’. I try not to be confrontational anymore. Those of you who know me must think I have become boringJ or I just calmed down a bit!
Well, I went back and re-read the Weltanschauung Principles of Active Rain, (in case you are wondering where it is) go to the Site Map at the home, scroll down to Company pages, click on that and you will find the word: Weltanschauung and several “guiding principles.”
This year, Numbers 7 & 8 resonated with me:
7 We encourage dissenting and contrarian points of view because our industry is better served by continually examining the status quo. Challenging conventional wisdom is often essential for the evolution of our industry and the development of new opportunities.
8 We believe in spirited discourse, but personal attacks or predatory behavior will not be tolerated. Respect and civility are the shared values that unite us all.
Now with that said, I guess no reason for me to become boring, I can be myself, so please look forward to my usual wise crack comments to questions, my smart alec comments to posts, as well as my controversial views on you name the subject: Open House, Blogging, Client Service…. Well you know.
Thank you, Lynn, for another challenging Jumpstart Challenge as well as the Checklist! Now I will try to find my old posts about this very subject and see how I changedJ over the past year or two!
