I say – “Down with updates!”

I love my computer. I love the Internet and email, but…

This morning I created a new page on my website with information about a new prospecting letter set: Prospecting to Newlyweds.

All was well until I clicked the button to preview the page. Then I saw that the sidebar that at one time thumb downwas ONLY on my blog posts was now on all of my pages. Worse – it had a spot at the bottom of the sidebar informing the world that I should have written something there, but didn’t.

After spending an hour clicking various links and trying to figure out how to get that unwanted sidebar removed, I gave up and wrote something dumb in the space. Since I’m totally non-techie, I’m afraid to get too wild – I might erase the whole site by accident!

As soon as I realized it would be no easy fix for me, I sent a “help” message to the guru who helps me when I’m completely stuck.

I don’t really expect him to answer me on Sunday – and since we’re not in constant touch, for all I know he’s off on a well-earned vacation. So for now, ALL of my web pages have an unwanted sidebar.

It wasn’t there a couple of days ago, so all I can assume is that Wordpress did an update.

Ah well – onward!

Ooh, I know that feeling...when it comes to techie stuff, I know what I know and no more than that! I would be stuck until help arrived, too.

Hi Marte - The ones that kill me are the stupid Windows 10 ones - they'll pop up when I'm in the middle of something and it has taken as much as 30 minutes to get everything setlled back down and started up again.

Wordpress did something different.  I noticed it when I went in to write a post last week.  Hate it when things change unexpectedly.

I feel your pain, Marte.  Auto updates are often more of a trade-off, rather than an improvement!

I know where you are coming from. Not being a techy doesn't help me at al either.

I utilize Windows 10 Pro; and unfortunately, there is no way (that I have found at least), to toggle the updates to 'Manual'. There is a way to identify your key working times (up to 12 hours) so that the computer will not disrupt during working times; and, you can also toggle it to sense when you ARE working and ask you to schedule an update time and date.  Unfortunately, sometimes the update occur while I am traveling, which can disrupt my remote access.  Microsoft has some very good products, but they seem to have quit listening to the common user about basic operations.

Hi Marte... all those "auto's" drive me crazy... auto-update, auto-correct. Everytime my phone goes through an auto-update something goes wrong there.
