It's Your Neighborhood! What do you do?

By
Real Estate Agent with Envision Real Estate Group, LLC.

Your neighbors friends park their cars all down the street, and make it difficult for 2 cars to pass through at a time.  What do you do?  Your neighbors and or their friends play LOUD music at all hours of the night.  What do you do?  Your neighbors speed down your street like they are trying to qualify for the Indy 500, and children play in the streets.  What do you do?  I love this one.  Your neighbors walk their dog without a lease, and the precious one takes a poop in your yard.  What do you do?

These are just a few things that happen, and we've all been there at one point and time.  It just happened to me.  I have 2 little children.  My son is 9, and my daughter is 6.  We live in a new subdivision on a Cul De Sac, but yet we have drivers speeding down the road like they've got something to prove.  So, what do you do?  I told my wife and kids to get on the edge of the road because the driver wasn't paying attention, and I stood in the middle of the road with my 90 lb Boxer.  We didn't move, and the driver stopped!  Long story short; the driver got the idea to slow down from here on out.  I gathered the license plate number and called one of my former clients; who happens to be a police officer, and reported the situation.

Granted, I don't recommend standing in the street to anyone.  I was furious, and concerned about the safety of my children and the other children that play in the neighborhood.  I am sure I am not the only one that's seen this car speeding before because it would happen on a regular basis, but nothing had changed.

What if?

What if those cars parked on the side of the road blocked Mr. & Mrs. Jones address and cars prevented the ambulance seeing the Jones home?  They found it after the third attempt, but it was too late.

What if your children, grand children, or friends children are out playing and speeder comes through and injures the child?

What if you heard and saw an unusual car in the neighborhood and thought nothing of it?  The next morning you find out your neighbors home was burglarize and they lost all of their savings, and they were injured in the process.

What if we continued to look away, and depend on someone else to do something?  Would the world be a better place?

I choose to be an active part in the improvement of my neighborhood.  Now, I don't feel you should be on a 1st name basis with the dispatch person, unless you are in a high crime area, but realize that the changes and improvements in your neighborhood can start with you.  You can make a difference.

So, the next time you see something wrong in your neighborhood; what are you going to do?  Many cities have ordnances, and several subdivisions have Protected Covenants.  You can contact your local authorities for more information.

Ray I feel your pain; that must be so frustrating especially since there is not much you can do.  I often wonder what goes on in peoples head; absolutely no consideration for others. The point you made about the ambulance could mean the difference between life and death and should be of concern to everyone.

I do not have the problems you are having, sometimes I wonder if there is life on my street.  Now and then these three little dogs get loose; get into the cross street and a motorist might come knocking on my door inquiry if the dogs belong to me.  Once the dogs got caught in the storm drain, I heard the cries, I finally convinced the Dog Catcher they were in there, he managed to get them out, but months later the episode was repeated.

Here is hoping you will get some relief.  Maybe you could form a neighborhood group with a mission to improve the quality of like in the community.
