Formal Education? Is it worth it?

I just recently re-read this quote that captivates my experiences and my feelings regarding formal education.

" Your formal education will make you a living, your personal education will make you a fortune"

I strongly believe as a Real Estate Agent,  my personal education is extremely important when dealing with the roller coaster ride of the real estate business.  There are so many things to learn about- emotion, buyer's and seller's motivation, sales, persistence, growth, law, and on and on and on.  You just cannot learn it all in a classroom in a formal setting and/or online class. Your personal growth is the pursuit of higher learner that begins the day you graduate from college. Commencement is the beginning of your education, not the end.  It's an amazing feeling to seek knowledge.

I wish all the best of luck in this endeavor!

Formal education can significantly, but not necessarily, improve one's analytical abilities. Framing issues and using inductive and deductive reasoning is a valuable asset in real estate.

Disagree with the quote. Many folks without formal education also don't earn fortunes and some people with lots of formal education become wealthy.

Like the question Deborah.

I agree with it. I network with a lot of enterprenuers and a large majority of them are successful because of their self-education, not their formal.

I do like what Jim Rohn has to say and I feel like a formal education is important for an understanding of the world. That being said I knew I was a sales person when I was 8 years old selling candy for my older brother and sister. IBM was not for me.
