I understand the famous addage in real estate...location, location, location, and I truly believe it's true. But as a former school principal, I would like to add...school, school, school for those who have school aged children.
Many times clients spend months searching for the perfect home in a great neighborhood only to learn the neighborhood school has a less than stellar reputation.
I can't tell you the number of times I have had to turn parents away explaining that their child couldn't attend my school because they didn't live in our attendance zone. It always broke my heart, but the powers that be often institute this "rule" in order to keep school populations evenly distributed. But I can tell you first hand that not all schools are created equal.
For many parents, this is not an issue because they are able to fund a private school education. That's awesome! Unfortunately, for most families in this economy, it takes 2 incomes just to make ends meet, so public school is their only avenue.
Now don't get me wrong, there are thousands of amazing public schools out there, and a good real estate agent will be able to tell you where those are. Adding this criteria may extend the search time just a bit, but having this information can make all the difference for the most important people in your life...your children. Going to a loving, nurturing environment every day that challenges children and allows them to grow as unique individuals will not only make them happy campers, but will ease your mind as you drop them off each morning.
