You Don't Need Lead Generating BUT You Do Need a Plan

Real Estate Agent with Florida Supreme Realty SL514814

What are you doing here without a plan?

We all need a plan to succeed. Your plan will differ from other associates, and rightly so. Your strengths are somewhat like a snowflake where no one else will have the same composition that you do. The commonality of most successful agents is that they've taken the time to write their plan down. It's hard to comprehend why so many of us don't have a business plan. It's your reference point of how to reach expected goals. You have responsibilities and it takes a certain amount of concerted effort to achieve them. Some may define this as work and I wholeheartedly agree that it is. There was a time that consumers looked at their real estate agent friends and described their "work" as just sitting back and collecting a big, fat check. To be honest that does happen sometimes but the reality is to be successful there is so much more to today's profession. Real Estate's attrition rate still boggles the mind. It can overwhelm even the most productive multitaskers. Sample business plans are available almost everywhere, find one that you like, modify it to your needs and begin writing. It's a living document that should accept changes as your needs do. Refer to it often and reap the benefit of adhering to its written word. Thinking about it won't push you to being accountable nearly as much as looking at your written words can. Let it be your guide!

You can't always get what you want!

No matter how you look at this business the truth is we do not sell products. We sell our knowledge and the service we wish to provide. Listings are our inventory yet we don't own them (except on occasion). We must sell ourselves to the consumer who is in need of our aforementioned "products". The business plan works at all levels from the Broker down and the agent assistant up. Everyone needs a goal and a written directive on how to achieve it. Utilizing this system in your office can be contagious once results are observed. Get out your pad of paper and some sharp pencils and start writing. I can almost guarantee that you won't regret it.

Get what you need to begin here.

Kevin, you hit a good chord and it should resonate with all...especially since in my area the listings are very few...the need to work up the resume, plan, presentation & knowledge are key in this biz.

A plan, a road map.   Who needs it?  Why not just wander blindly chasing every fad and expending your energy building nothing, no momentum?  Plans take all the fun out of not knowing.  :)

(good post BTW)

.  Great points!  We all need written goals.....that we keep visible daily.  Too many people write them and file the away.

I've always planned on writing a plan, but part of my plan is that I'm a world-class procrastinator!!

Great reminder.  Writing it all down can keep me from getting overwhelmed.  It's that simple, a blueprint for the day, the week, the year...with the courage to know that you must be flexible.

Kevin, this is a critically important part of success.

Some write down a list of things they plan to do but never get them done in a way that moves them to a higher level-because they do not have a plan.

Great post.

Agree! When you fail to plan, you plan to fail, however, you must put your plan in writing to monitor its effectiveness in order to adapt or adopt new or better strategies to achieve your goals.
