The Sedona Marathon

The above video shows you the Boynton Canyon Area that the Marathon take place.  It is a beautiful canyon with many gorgeous red rock formations to keep your mind off the grueling race at hand. 

Many Elevation Changes

One thing many participants don't count on is the elevation.  Sedona averages 4500 feet. If you can, get here a couple of days early to acclimate to the current elevation and weather conditions.  The full marathon course starts at 4450' and climbs to 4700' a little after 2 miles in. By the half way mark, you have hit the low point of about 4075'. The course then rises within the next 5 miles to 4500 drops slightly and then rises to 4700' by mile 20. There are many peaks and valleys that continue until the end of this course. 

Aid Stations Every 2 Miles (approx.)

Along the way, there are Aid stations approximately every 2 miles. There is even a massage tent for the runners. Hosted by one of my clients!  Jody Hendryx PT and her partner Michael Rende OTR. You can find out more information on the Sedona Marathon website. 

Traffic Restrictions

On Saturday, February 4th, local residents who are not going to participate in the Sedona Marathon may want to stay clear of the 89A by the Sedona Red Rock High School west to the Sedona Medical Center.

• 6:00 am        FREE Shuttles begin pick-ups
• 7:00 am        Venue opens for gear drop, etc.
• 8:45 am        Welcome
• 9:00 am        Marathon Start
• 9:10 am        Half Marathon start
• 9:20 am        10K start
• 9:30 am        5K start
• 10:00 am      Massage tent opens
• 10:30 am      5K awards presentation (top 3 male and female finishers) Start/finish area
• 11:00 am      10K awards presentation (top 3 male and female finishers) Start/finish area
• 11:15 am      All Half Marathon participants must be through turn-around
• 11:30 pm      Half Marathon awards presentation (top 3 male and female finishers) Start/finish area
• 11:30 pm      All Marathon participants must be through turn-around
• 1:00 pm        Full Marathon awards presentation (top 3 male and female finishers, Best Aid Station) Start/finish area
• 4:00 pm        Finish line closed
• 4:30 pm        Free Shuttle Makes Final Route

People come from all over to participate in this event. It is a great winter outdoor event that has gathered more participants every year since the very first marathon!
