Several year ago I posted a quote on my Facebook page which read:
“Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest…. Mark Twain”
A few moments later I received a message from another realtor who told me that our board, The Toronto Real Estate Board actually encourages REALTORS to perform a “Random Act of Kindness” and TREB has produced cards to hand out to the public after the deed is done.
The card does not identify you per say, just that you are a REALTOR. For instance, if you are at Tim Horton, buy a cup of coffee for the next person in-line ! If you are in line a the grocery store, and the person behind you has only a few items, and you have a cart full…. let them go ahead of you….
It really encouraged me to call my Board and have them send me some of these cards. What a great way to promote our profession, and at the same time perform a kindness for others.
It really prompted me to think of one of my clients whose home I currently have listed. Despite many showings, no offers yet, and I knew it needed a fresh coat of paint in one particular area. I brought this to her attention, and because of financial restrictions, she could not afford to buy a gallon of paint.
I called her and told her I would be happy to buy the paint for her if she would be willing to paint. I met her yesterday and we selected a neutral colour paint.
Prior to meeting her, I had also stopped for a bite to eat in a store that sold fresh cut flowers and they had just reduced the fresh flower bouquets from $14.99 to $3.99… I bought two bunches of flowers to help brighten her day, and to have them displayed for her Open House this Sunday.
She couldn’t have been more grateful, but I’m not sure which she appreciated more… the paint or the flowers!!!
One thing I do know.. it made me feel really good that I helped someone today and showed her some kindness and compassion….her smile and gratitude was all the thanks I needed to make my day..
I’m not sure who was happier…me or her!!
