Dog of the Week - January 13, 2017

I was at the Fort Bend County Animal Shelter in Rosenberg TX last Saturday being January 7, 2017 doing volunteer work. I like to take the dogs for walks; pet them inside or outside their pens while talking and giving them treats I bring with me. These poor pups are starved for attention and some love.

Last time I visited in mid December, three of the dogs I interacted with a lot got adopted. I was very happy and this was wonderful news. The first two dogs I walked and took pictures of on last Saturday got adopted this week! Perfect in mind.

The shelter is once again full and there has been several strays brought in in this week plus owner turn ins. Strays are usually dogs that have been dumped by bad owners. Some of owner turn ins were adopted from the shelter. The reasons given if any by the owners for turn ins are usually pretty flimsy and in my mind I say “Really”. Getting adopted and then returned is a terrible thing to do any dog and could be a death sentence. The shelter can euthanize owner turn ins within 3 days of return!

This week my Dog of the week is a Female Lab ID A009676 mix brown and white in color. She is a fairly large dog but very friendly and loves to go for walks and run in the play area. She needs a lot of good love and will make someone or family a great dog. Her nails need to be trimmed. She did not bark at all at the other dogs. She is a little timid as the loud barking of the other dogs scares many of them them including her. Go out to the shelter tomorrow and visit with her. She loves the attention and being loved. She needs to get out of this shelter!

I am hoping this pup gets adopted this weekend!

I am really glad that pooch is in Texas, and I'm here in California.  I have no will power when it comes to animals.  If I were to bring him home, my cats would divorce me!

Like Myrl Jeffcoat I find it hard not to want to take a creature home.  We are going to our local shelter with a box of towels and a check, and I run right out so I don't yield to temptation.  Your dog of the week is a lovely girl, I hope she gets adopted very soon.  A

Bob I really admire you for what you are doing... It breaks my heart to see these poor, defenseless animals held in a cage, and as you say the poor excuses owners use to turn in these dogs is pathetic.  I'm afraid if I were to visit the shelter I would wnat to take them all home! What a lovely girls, I hope she finds a loving, forever home soon.

She is so sweet and pretty looking. Those poor dogs get scared when they get to the shelter. It's so different than anything they know, and they sense the urgency in getting adopted. I know they do.

I think it's great you are volunteering to help out, and I love your pet of the week posts. Keep doing them. You will make a difference.

I can tell y'all that it is very hard emotionally on me to go and see all these poor pups.It breaks my heart but I guts it out and try to do whatever I can to make a small difference/contribution. I wake up late at night thinking about this stuff.. I think there was a much higher purpose for me involved when Miss Duchess came into our lives as before I was totally clueless..
