Do Agents Work on Martin Luther King Day When Clients are Off?

By
Real Estate Agent with Lyon Real Estate BRE #00697006

It's tough for some people to work on a holiday. There are those who feel the need to share online with whomever will read all of their personal beliefs and preferences like: My family comes first . . . but not before my Lord and personal Savior . . . and my favorite color is blue, but not blue like the sky, but more blue like an robin's egg; and I really, really love Duck Dynsasty . . . and that new show Housewives of Hell. Certainly you believe in and like all of these things as I do?

These people have no clue how this sort of personal confession and chatter can appear to others. Especially when all you said was hey, nice to see ya.

This is also why I don't hang out on Facebook.

Not me, I just go to work. I blend my lifestyle, work ethic and beliefs into one big pudding. If a prospective client calls, I will answer the phone. But we're all different. Live and let live. It's what makes the world go round. And I'm heading out today to tackle more listings in Sacramento. You can read more in my personal blog today at this link: No Holiday for Sacramento Listing Agents on Martin Luther King Day.

Good morning, Elizabeth -- as you have stated, it's a choice and yours works for you.   I'm sure there are those who wonder how you can take a Hawaiian worcation and not have your business suffer.

The attitude we bring to our approach to business(and life) determines so much.  You know how to "work it" and that makes a big difference.

It's another Monday for me, which is a busy day of work.  When buyers and sellers are off, we are called into action.

Sybil Campbell They always think they are disturbing us, I get a lot of callers apologizing for "bothering" me. I'm so happy they called!!!

Michael Jacobs Yes, once my clients understand I will take care of them no matter what, they don't care what I do. The client I met with today, I spoke with her off and on while in Hawaii. She is ready to list mid February. I mentioned that I'm going to Mexico to see the Monarch butterflies before they migrate, she said, "You can be anywhere, so I'm not worried."

Chris Ann Cleland Absolutely, when they're off work, they are calling us. It's hard for many clients to work their real estate-related business into their work day, and it's easier to do it after hours or during a holiday. It's been so long since I've been in that kind of environment, I don't know how employers treat personal cellphone calls these days, but I imagine they're not happy with it.

Hi Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents, it was just another Monday for me, most of my clients were off so they squeezed in some of their real estate into their day off, for that, I'm thankful. Thanks to all the gadgets we have, our work can be accomplished from anywhere(except showing homes of course).

Beth Atalay Since my team members show homes and I do not, I truly CAN work from anywhere. It's one of the perks of being strictly a listing agent. A lot more freedom and flexibility.

Like you, Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents I answer the phone and get to what I need (or want) to get to on any given day, doesn't matter where I am, even on Lanai Island. Yesterday, I reached out to a bunch of clients but mostly they were AWOL, so I went to see the movie La La Land with a friend. Enjoyed it!

@Hella If I ever get out from under the mountain of paperwork on my desk and get caught up on my About.com writings, I would love love love to see La La Land this weekend with my husband. I've been wanting to see that movie for months and months. It wasn't playing at Big Island.

All I know, Elizabeth, is that I worked on Monday... no rest for the weary or the wicked, as they say. Buyers who are off from work on such a holiday often use the day to do some home shopping! I only have a few days in the year when I absolutely don't work... Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Thanksgiving Day, Good Friday, and Easter.
